33 Live Painted Lady Caterpillars to Butterflies, Classroom Learning Kit

We ordered these to raise with our kids. We had bad luck with our first batch. Most of them ended up dying. I reached out to the company and they sent me another set by 2 day express ups. They were very nice people too. Even though the first ones died I'd still recommend these butterflies. Like I said it was just a bit of bad luck and their customer service was beyond fantastic. Just dealing with nice, understanding people makes these worth ordering.

I actually received more than 60 caterpillars which I thought was great considering the other reviewers that mentioned receiving far less. The problem is that, even after receiving that many, only 16 survived to the chrysalis stage. Of the 16 chrysalides, 7 turned black and rotted within a couple days. 4 butterflies came out today, 3 of which didn't survive. I don't know if there wasn't enough food perhaps but hardly any of the caterpillars that were put in the small cups survived. Some were left in the large cup that came with the kit and I had better luck with those. I live in San Diego and they were kept in a temperature-controlled environment. I have always had luck with Insect Lore in the past 10 years of teaching the butterfly life cycle, I guess I will have to go back to them. I am a first grade teacher, also growing monarchs and gulf fritillary caterpillars in my classroom for comparison. The other species are thriving. My students are so disappointed!

I ordered 33 caterpillars and ended up with what looks like to be 53 cuz I counted way more than 30 maybe an inconvenience for other classes to have so many I am guessing it's because the shipping is so good that the extra ones that they send somehow survive lucky for me I love butterflies and caterpillars even though that number is kind of scary I'm hoping to raise my own Butterflies from eggs and start my own business one day this will get me far beyond it where I ever wanted to be but I love it I think it's fun for all ages do you know it's may come with more than you expect!! Product comes with good instructions and containers for all of them they come in all different shapes and sizes and you definitely get your money's worth. And they turn out to be really beautiful butterflies definitely high quality. I would recommend these to anyone and I have referred them to a few schools I raised them to butterflies and breed them They laid eggs and the hatched now on a second generation turning to chrysalis hopefully I never need to buy more VERY EASY TO BREED They will mate with in 3-5 day of hatching from chrysalis Host plant is a hollyhock Put in a mesh cage with a ant moat Ants will eat butterfly eggs Plant doesn't do good in doors Keep out doors Put male and female in with plant when mating they will do the rest.

All my butterflies hatched from their chrysalis’s. About thirty or so. There were about six extra caterpillars included with the package so i as to put two caterpillars per cup in a few cups. Just a few caterpillars died and don’t seem to grow. Some of the chrysalis’s fell from the cup lid into the feed and poop on the bottom. In this case I read on a different website that it is crucial to remove them and place on a dry surface or the chrysalis will die. It is unclear whether or not you should punch some breathing holes in the plastic cups. Since the cups are so tiny and the caterpillars get so big inside them I did pigs few holes in each cup with a needle. It would be good if the instructions clarify this as it took quite a bit of work. It took longer for my caterpillars to turn into chrysalis than ten days. I think this may be because of the cold weather. Low to mid sixties. Bear in mind that you will have to hand scoop food and caterpillar into individual plastic cups as they cup contained all in one cup. All cups are supplied by the company .

Very disappointed way over the amount not enough food or containers most already died..

Growing up, my dad and I would get painted lady caterpillars each spring and raise them to butterflies. I’m a medical student, looking for some joy in life and decided to get some painted ladies again. The joy that these little critters bring me is unimaginable. I ordered 33 caterpillars and got 53!!! All alive and thriving when I received them. They should soon form a chrysalis and they are all still doing very well. I’m so happy with this product. Will definitely be purchasing again!!

While I loved the product and the price was fair, my orders were inconsistent. One arrived with more larvae than food to feed them. So we had to find natural food rapidly to feed the extra larvae. The next order arrived short of larvae with an extremely poor rate of maturity, just the opposite situation as our first order, which was great. Still, I would probably give them another shot. They definitely ship with adequate food to raise 33 caterpillars and include the additional supplies and instructions, although we prefer not to use the tiny cups and instead use our existing butterfly cages.

I am very happy with my order! I ordered the classroom pack and received 38 caterpillars. 37 of them were alive and very active! There was plenty of food for them as well. I followed the instructions but poked little holes in the lids and added a piece of coffee filter to the top of each cup though.
