Do I remove the black foam that is attach to the connector piece? It's glued onto the metal

Hello- The installation of the replacement battery is very straight forward. I did not remove any foam on my battery plug connector. The foam (1/16 inch) is on the bottom connector plug and to protect the connection to motherboard connector. Also the foam adds strength to the connector. Good luck with your installation.

Do I need to keep the plastic film on to protect the battery after installing?

You only need to see the black plastic battery case, as shown in the photos. If you're talking about a thin, clear cellophane over it, you don't need that.

Why does this battery go from 45% to 7% in a matter of minutes and then it shuts down. very disappointed is this normal?

No, not normal, but once installed, it should be plugged in and fully charged for a few hours as stated before use for proper performance. This is typical with all new rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
