Doesn't last long with aggressive chewers
The first one I had lasted a couple of days and my two big dogs loved it. Then it got left outside in the rain and my Shepherd mix got the chew out (I thought because the rain made it smaller/easier). I decided to get another one since the concept seemed to work well. The outer rubber toy is heavy-duty and durable but my black Lab was able to get the chew out within 20 minutes. It's a good idea and seems well made, just don't expect this to keep your aggressive chewer entertained for ages.

it does what it says
I don't recommend rawhide for dogs BUT I made the exception on this one because it's a lower price than the Himalayan chew variety (I can buy the Himalayan chew cheaper here on amazon separately and then I just switched it out) but she was able to pull the rawhide out after a little bit (she was VERY DETERMINED) so that kept her occupied for a good while. The one turn off of this thing is the SMELL. It smells like a tire. I have to keep it far away from me or I just can't stand it. My 50lb pit bull does like it but she looses interest after a while (I have the himalayan chew in there right now and it's all gnarled up) what would have taken 30 mins to chew up has been chewed on on and off for about 2 months. I do feel like it's a good investment to keep those expensive Himalayan chews longer, but I still give her a bully stick every now and again for instant gratification. She also does not try to destroy it, either. I'm sure she could, too...but I guess having the chew inside keeps her from just wanting to rip it all apart. I'm impressed.

You should not be able to damage a product simply by refilling it according to the instructions...
Our boy destroys a 6" rawhide in about 10 minutes, and even with 12" pizzle sticks he's back from the patio in under 30 minutes. While I'm glad he loves his stuff so much, I'd like it to last a little longer. When this arrived, I was actually scared he'd just tear it apart to get to the bone, rather than work out how to get to it without demolishing the toy. But much to my surprise, this was really sturdy and it took him three days (which is exactly how long we've had it now) to extract the rawhide from the shell. Imagine my surprise that after our 'power chewer' left this completely intact, I should be the one to break it, or at least damage it, three days in. Upon trying to refill with another Ruffhides Super Size Rawhide, I carefully looked at the instructions, made sure the label was upside down, flipped back the top portion - and it cracked in three different places. After one use. I am very disappointed and wish I'd gotten this at an actual store so I could go there, show them this, and get a replacement. It looked so promising but now I'm scared I'll ruin it completely if I actually try to get the whole refill inside of the shell. I took pictures as well and will include them here on the page. I want my money back, the amount I paid for 3 days worth of fun is in no way justified.

Best compliment to "long lasting" treats ever.
I am always on the hunt for toys and treats that hold up to their claims of being meant for "tough chewers" or indestructible. I have 2 dobermans- both are power chewers. They have extremely sensitive stomachs so that's a limiting factor. I saw these and decided to give them a try dispite some poor reviews. I spent a lot of time researching to see if I would be able to buy other brands of treats to fit inside, and also if I bought the rawhide one, would it work with the Himalayan treats that actually hold up to my dogs' power jaws? Yes and yes! So I bought the rawhide refillable. Yes it is stinky rubber out of the package. Not my favorite smell but I will take that over some of the other treats that I have purchased! It faded quickly and was not an issue for us. Certainly not for the dobes! I first gave them the one filled with a rawhide roll. These rolls last 5 minutes typically, but in the ruffhides it was an afternoon of entertainment! Held their attention, offered just enough challenge and extended the life of their treat! Then I tried filling the ruffhides with our favorite Himalayan chew. Fit snugly. This was the greatest discovery because one treat has lasted several weeks!!! I am so amazed. Just ordered some braided bully Sticks to try next!Bottom line: highly recomend. Very impressive!

High energy, heavy chewers? A new kind of Kong that works great!
I found a new product that my 50 lb. high energy dogs LOVE: Pawabunga's Ruffhides. They're incredibly durable Kong-like toys that come with refillable beef rawhides (and others). Only part of the hide is accessible and the seam of the hide is protected so it doesn't unravel quickly. My heavy chewers took 3 separate days about an hour each day to get the hide out completely. I'm very happy with the toy. This order comes with one rawhide already inside the toy, you can purchase others separately. Please remember to supervise your dog, if the dog gets the entire hide out you should be careful the dog doesn't eat the whole thing or choke on a large piece of hide. When I give this toy to my dogs, they act like total puppies: bouncing around, playing with the toy before trying to really eat the hide, if it makes them THAT happy then it's a winner :-)

Excellent Durability!
We have had our Ruffhide Refillable Chew for about five months now and it has held up incredibly well! Our 10-month-old, 90 lb. puppy is a very, very strong chewer and only a few toys have withstood his intensity -- this being one of them. You should see him go at this toy! We use the Himalayan inserts and each one lasts nearly a month. We only change them to freshen them and pique his interest again. I just ordered another since he likes to have one outside too! We have not had any problems with changing the inserts and while there are tooth marks on the rubber, he has not ripped any pieces off to date. We couldn't be more pleased with this product!
