Too Hot? Too Cold?: Keeping Body Temperature Just Right

I meant to purchase this for 2 year olds and found it to be on a much higher level than that. (Maybe 8 and above?) Still, I found it very interesting and thorough in exploring different ways animals and humans keep their temperature stable. 4 stars because I cant give 5 stars to a softcover book.

This is a great book that explains the concept of body temp and how it changes! I bought one for myself because I have always loved this illustrators work, and as usual, she did not disappoint! I have been focused on children's books since my 2 were very small, and I know how much illustrations keep their attention. I also bought one for my daughter who is a Montessori teacher now, and she has already found it to be be perfect for her resource and just plain enjoyable book collection! It explains the concept clearly, and with each page, the teaching is backed up with wonderful illustrations!

very few children's books about body temperature. this one is pretty thorough. all humans need to understand their own body's need to keep temperature in a very narrow range, and how that happens so they can help body when needed. also explains cold-blooded mechanism, and extends the teachable moment so kids understand behavior of critters they encounter. bought for my granddaughters to help teach them what i learned the hard way on a midlife winter expedition.

Based on the description, I had thought this book would focus more on human interactions with temperature, but it instead focused mostly on how other animals adapt to different temperatures and climates. Great for discussing animal adaptations, but not awesome for discussing temperature with students!
