Dowling Miner Magnetics CAT514 Ceramic Coated Bar Magnets, 7/8" Length, Assorted Color - 1006398

I'm pretty sure I had this exact same product more than 25 years ago, when I was a child. I remember the same small size and the long, rounded-corners bar shape, and the same 2-each set of rainbow colors in tough enamel coating. Sadly, I gradually lost pieces of it one at a time or so, but until the end was always incorporating these small magnets into play with my action figures and toy cars.Now I've just bought a set to keep in my small but growing collection of magnets for their own sake. Seems I was able to get the same product from the same company after all this time!The N and S poles are on the broad, flat faces on the top and bottom as shown in the product photo. When laid with the smallest faces end-to-end, they will automatically twist to align opposite poles to snap together. You could use them to hold small paper or cards to a refrigerator if you want, but they're not really the optimum size for that. A small ferrite disc magnet (or a similiarly-sized neodymium bar magnet) would be better for those kinds of jobs.They are not as strong as modern neodymium magnets, but they don't have to be. They're actually safer this way, less chance of snapping together so hard as to chip or shatter. Much better and less likely to pinch delicate skin if used to make temporary jewelry like rings or ear pieces. They hold to each other well enough face to face, and it's just possible to string them together end-to-end and have them hold their own weight without falling apart. I've stacked them vertically face-to-face single file and used them to hold up at least half a pound of metal to the underside of a steel plate, so they're far from useless.The enamel paint will chip over time with frequent handling, but then again so will the nickel plating on neodymium magnets. And these won't rust.

I use these magnets to put on large paper clips then the smaller clips holding papers stick to them for really easy removal, the plastic coating lasts a really long time and the colors make them easy to locate.

I don't even know where to begin. They came in a box ten times bigger than they are. Combined, they would not even fill up a Pez dispenser. They are not magnetically strong. I tried returning them, but the return cost was about 50% of their cost, so I'm stuck. Unless you have a project that requires midget magnets, avoid these at all costs.

Extremely strong magnets, but are really small. I am keeping them bc they are mighty & a bit cute. It's like giant pieces of rice that can stick strongly. Refrigerator, Owl, Dime, & penny not included.

I bought some magnets looked exactly like these but were 1/20th the size.Please stress size in your display.Greg

Read the item description!! It is accurate but the picture is a bit misleading. Item much smaller than anticipated but still works fine. Bought for a magnet lesson for preschoolers but worried about a choking hazard. Using it for my office instead. Still works just fine.

These magnets were perfect for my science outreach project. I needed small rectangular magnets that could attach through a piece of glass. I used a different, super strong magnet for my partner magnet, so I had no problems with the magnet strength. I would absolutely order again for other science outreach projects.

The perfect size for my project, I just wish they were a bit more powerful.
