Old Fisherman ROASTED EEL with Fermented BLACK BEANS 3.5oz (6 Pack)

Salty, Smokey, sweet, and a bit of heat. Wonderfully complex flavor.

Goes great with rice and is a high protein value, albeit a little spendy. The flavor is amazing and is rich and fulfilling. I'm not into seafood as I have a high intolerance to the taste of fish, but this does not have any fishy residue.

So this is eel in eel sauce - the fermented black beans add very little to the experience. For those like myself who enjoy tinned fish, this is a little different than the usual fare. For one thing, it is preserved in eel sauce, which has - to an american - a teriyaki or a sweet and sour-like character. Surprisingly this is not overbearing at all, it's actually quite well balanced, though I like to add just a little salt to taste. In consistency it is dense and thick almost like it has been half-frozen, or candied. This will doubtlessly put some people off, especially if you were expecting the yielding consistency of sardines or sprats, but this is closer to kipper. I rather like it. I want to try some more traditional, western-hemisphere style eel, but this is a nice treat. The sauce really overpowers the eel flavor almost entirely, which if you are buying tinned eel for the eel might not be ideal. However, it is good for a snack and to add some variety to your cabinet, and I'm told it goes well with rice. At this price, would recommend, if you feel like the above might be something you'd be interested in. It's worth a try, anyway.

These are a little expensive but they taste good and are great as a lunch or snack.

this is the literal worst thing ive ever tasted. and i like tinned fish.

I know the backbones are soft and edible but I don't care to do that with any canned fish. Also, because these are narrow fish there's a lot of backbone per fillet. Taste is very good though but I'm not messing with these anymore.

Bought with low expectations but pleasantly surprised how good thet were. There was a slight sweetness to the black bean sauce which went very well with the eels. Served these on jasmine rich with fried egg and was delicious. Added a little chili oil with soy and fish sauce which also complimented the bean sauce.
