I have been using this machine for over a year and a half now and all I can say is for the price it gets the job done. I have had a Kenmore for more than 20 years and the Singer Sew Mate is much easier to use. I have had NO problems with breaking needles or bobbin problems. At one point during the Fall and Winter I was sewing about 30 hours a week on this machine and everything worked great. The selection of stitches is really extensive for the casual sewer, and most are very nice when applied as accents to apparel. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this machine. *If anyone is having problems with the bobbins, I would suggest using only the meal bobbins made for this machine NOT a 'universal' plastic bobbin*

Absolutely wonderful sewing machine. I am very happy with it so far. I have only used it a couple of times, but I am very happy with the quality and how it performs. It took me a long time to decide on a new sewing machine--I was concerned that it would not measure up to my old Kenmore sewing machine, but I can see now that sewing machines definitely have changed with their smoother operations, quietness, and the speed of the machine itself. Very happy to have purchased this.

I purchased this sewing machine for my granddaughter. I am astounded by how cheap the material is. It is made of a low quality plastic that I feel won’t last very long. Just taking off the flat panel to access the “arm”, I was afraid that the plastic was going to crack. Gone are the days when you purchase a Singer and it will last a lifetime.

once again my Amazon order came in a very excellent condition and fully functional. im a first timer in sewing - im basically taking step by step tutorial via Singer 5400 Sew Mate Owners tutorial on Youtube (of course u can also watch the DVD manual that came with the machine or refer to the actual machine manual : both of which i havent opened yet). The tutorial is very concise and very easy to follow. I learned within minutes! Im now making a "dummy" project from a queen sized flat sheet which i cut into single fitted bedsheet and pillow sizes. So far so good. The machine ran smoothly and im in love with it already! ❤️❤️❤️ btw im from Asia (Taiwan specifically) and although there are a lot of sewing machine choices here im afraid they might come out with Chinese instructions and labels that i cant fully understand so i opted to order from Amazon (im an Amazon fan and might be biased on my review but i dont care, its what i feel) and once again, their service is on point! From the US to Taiwan, my machine is in its best condition when i got it. 👍

Replaced my moms 60 year old machine that died last month. She said it has been fairly easy to use compaired to her old unit she has known for so long. Only thing is it makes a odd noise every time it is turned on when the needle moves up and down, but that could just be how this unit starts up as it has not had one glitch or issue yet.

I love this machine. I have this issue now and then with machines where no matter what I do, it refuses to work for me. My old sewing machine ( a Brother) was like this. Worked for everyone but myself with no issues. As soon as I got near it, chaos with bird nesting, needles breaking and general stupidity. My new Singer arrived and I was so excited to discover I could sew without endless issues. I love this machine, works amazingly, I LOVE that the storage is a slide off and not something I have to force, the machine is super easy to thread and get running and I highly recommend it. Needle replacement is awesomely easy if it needs to be done. I also adore the threader on the machine, so easy to use and helps so much for those of us with sight issues. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Purchased this Singer Sew Mate 5400 sewing machine in 2018. Thread started bunching under fabric with first use. Re-threaded again, again and again. So frustrated I put my sewing machine away. Started using it again in 2019. Thread bunching up (birdnesting) under fabric. STILL. Read lots more reviews and watched a lot videos for a solution. FINALLY, I found a suggestion on a blog from a quilter with a Janome sewing machine. I figured why not try it on my Singer sewing machine. Her suggestion was to reverse threading of the 'take up lever' (on my machine it's step #4, when threading the machine). Rather than putting thread right to left, put the thread left to right, continue threading according to instructions. It looks wrong, but it's working, SO FAR. Just changing that ONE thing has cured my problem. Apparently provides just enough tension to stop the 'birdnesting' (a term I learned looking for solutions). So far no thread has bunched up under my fabric. Hope this helps some people that have the same issue.

This sewing machine is awesome! It's super easy to use even for a beginner. There are tons of videos on YouTube that will tell you how to set up. The built in stitches are really amazing as well. Super easy to thread bobbin and put the bobbin in. Has a thread cutter on the side as well. Plus easy to figure out codes when something is wrong.

Amo esta máquina. Me tocó un buen precio, la calidad es buena, trae muchos estilos de puntadas muy bonitos. Hasta ahora no me ha fallado, trae un cd con tutoriales, pero sino, en su canal de YouTube están también. Creo que es para nivel básico y medio, si necesitas un uso más rudo, te convendría más una máquina de coser industrial. Sino, esta es perfecta.

Great machine. Well built and very accurate. It is super easy to thread, even for a guy that's practically blind. And it practically does everything for you. Highly recommended for novices like me to learn and enough features to be useful for a skilled hobbyist. Accurate description and very fast shipping.

Bought for my daughter, her first machine... she set it up etc all by herself (she's not very sewing machine savvy so I was impressed) and she did a few sewing repairs already on it....she at first had a little troubles with the bobbin/thread spool but when I got to go and see her machine it was a quick fix...I tried it and I quite liked it... it's a great little machine....if my machine calves I may have to buy one of these ones...

La máquina funciona de maravilla, viene bien empacada y trae todos sus papeles de garantía, es fácil de usar solo hay que leer el instructivo, es un excelente producto en cuanto calidad y precio.

Es muy delicada.. se trata mucho y no puedes coser con la confianza que deseas.. no la recomiendo para aquellos que desean empezar a coser ya que sólo cose telas muy delgada.
