Yes, it does restrict how far the door can open. It has an internal spring that cushions the opening force when the door is reaching the limit.

Simple Answer is yes, one could lock the friction at 45 deg. But you would need to undo the device a bit so that the door could be closed or fully opened. Or if you only ever want to open to 45 degrees it would be possible to set the restictor appropriately.

that’s right, no instruction on fitting were available when I bought ZEROplus Telescopic Friction Stay for Doors. having said that it’s super easy to install. Love it and comes so handy with my greenhouse door to stay open on a windy day
