Marineland Penguin Refillable Media Cartridge For Aquarium Filter, 1 Count

Bring this product back! It saves money, it is 100% customizable to fit your filtration needs, with different media and amounts needed. ALSO less waste in landfills. I sort of overfilled mine and the tabs cracked, my fault. I had spares but I need more so please bring this product back.

I had some 30ppi one inch thick filter foam that I had been cutting to fit, rather badly, my Marineland 200's. These Cartridges fit it perfectly after I cut off some 3/4" or so strips. I'm experimenting w/ some smaller ppi foam to find the best mix for two of these/filter.

I saw these and thought they'd be made out of that crappy black plastic that you find on cheaply produced dollar store baskets and strainers. I still ordered them, figuring regardless of that they would still work. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they're made of a very sturdy plastic. I dropped one on my kitchen floor thinking it would shatter but it didn't. I only needed one as I only had one spot in a filter that I was going to use it, but it required me to order 2. I figured I'd have a backup. Crazy thing is, I've found that because of how sturdy it is, and the fact that its got the holes in it, I ended up using it to put my coffee mug on!! It stops my mug from discoloring my wood furniture, and any coffee ring just stays on the plastic and its super easy to rinse off! I realized that if I put a piece of thin plastic inside of it, I was also able to use it for cold drinks! The condensation drips onto the plastic, the raised vented part keeps the cold away from the table. I know, I'm nuts right? But is it great for the charcoal? Absolutely! And apparently its the best thermal protective/water protective coaster I've ever had on top of that! I'm actually going to order some more so that I can have more coasters! Perhaps not recommended if you don't want a weird looking grey coaster on your table. : ) Pssst... I also use it for cereal and ice cream bowls!!

Purchased this and a jumbo thing of carbon for my 350, fits well and holds about a tablespoon of carbon per little chamber, so about 10 tablespoons in total. I had been using the regular replacement cartridges but my tank was staying slightly cloudy and smelly so went back and forth between getting another filter(It's a 29 gallon overloaded with juvenile cichlids from my cracked 75 gallon), but the one on there is rated for twice the size already. I'm glad I purchased this instead. Within 3 days my tank was crystal clear and no longer had any odor. The only thing is it is made out of very thin and flimsy plastic; I'm not sure how many times I'll be able to replace the carbon before it breaks

I was on the verge of throwing away my marineland 350b filter. I hated to do it since although it's not my preferred brand, I do like the small fitler intake compared to the huge flow and of course, I didn't want to throw away all the beneficial bacteria on the biowheels. Not only does this product save you money by not having to buy the ridiculous expensive rite size A cartridges every few weeks, it corrects what is in my opinion the major flaw of this system - lack of flow through the blue filter pads. If you have a planted tank or any tank with a lot of gunk in it, that gunk easily clogs the blue filter pads. My biowheels would stop spinning every day, I would have to take out the blue pads, rinse them back and front, every darn day! It was driving me insane. However, with this product, the flow through the plastic on both sides is much better. I use quilt batting and charcoal. Not only can I add much more charcoal than the pads (my tank has never been so crystal clear), but if I decide I don't want to use charcoal any more for meds or because I'm putting purigen in the other filter on the tank, the quilt batting (you can get a years supply for about what the price of a 6 pack of rite size cartridges cost) is enough. My biowheels are spinning like when the filter was new, I'm saving money and my tank is cleaner than ever. Why oh why didn't I buy this product years ago! This was the best and smartest aquarium purchase I've made! They should sell these in more pet stores and I don't think it's a mistake that they don't because in saving you hundreds, they cost stores that much!

Fits perfect for my Marineland Penguin Bio-Wheel Power Filter 200. I think I will get another one for filter floss.

SOOOO much better than a media bag for the BioWheel - I used one and stuffed in filter media, then filled another with carbon and phosguard, and they both slide into my Penguin 200 neatly, with room to stuff more filter toward the back. Flow is not hampered at all. I can't believe these are a $1 a piece - a media bag is $0.30-$1.00 each, but no where near as awesome. The slots are a little larger for fine particulate, but they also allow good flow. How to rinse out a lot fine particulate but I don't think it was any more than I had to with a media bag. The only difference is that the media bag didn't have as much water flow through it the value of these things are awesome I can't believe they don't make him for my Penguin 100 which sucks. Update:. I've change my filter once do far, but I cut out the notches so the filter media would for easily in one of them. The others still house my cannon zeolite mixture.

These plastic box like cartridges feel flimsy and the closing tabs can break off easy. However, they are the only ones that fit the Penquin filters. You are not required to use these in the filters but I fill these with charcoal or ammonia removing pellets to give the filter system an extra boost. This really helps since I reuse the expensive blue filter pads a few times before throwing them out. Simply use a garden hose to clean the blue filter pads and fill the plastic cartridges with charcoal or ammonia removing pellets.

When I found theses I was so happy. As far as I know this is the only brand that makes these instead of having to buy the expensive filters every month. Initial cost is a bit but when compared to filters it’s a no brainer. They fit perfect in any penguin filter. I have the small one and also the largest one. I fill them with carbon and ammonia removing stone and also some bio substrate on the top part. Inside it is broken into sections about every cm so you can space things out and all your carbon etc won’t just sink to the bottom so this offers good coverage. Again I love these things, I’ve had them for years now and no issues. I put filter sponge infront of these as you can see in the pictures. And this also makes it easy to just take the filter out and wash it and leave the carbon etc in longer since it normally lasts longer then the sponge will. Has saved me hundred of dollars.

I keep extra media in this and it's easy to move to another tank for cycling. I cut strips of sponge to put in the one I'm using to help cycle my new 20 gallon. I plan to put Filter rings in it for my cycled tank once I'm done. I find it fits well and keeps media in place.
