Depends what you're looking for really.
I was eager to read this book as the title led me to believe that I might gain some insight into a subject that I've been struggling to piece together. However, after getting past the first few pages, I was having a hard time maintaining a positive position on the material. It is a strange religious hodge podge and quite honestly my first opinion was that this was a work of fiction. However, considering this is not meant to be fiction, the author would do well to provide sources for her statements. The first two chapters jumble together biblical snippets, vague historical references and satanic movie stereotyping. She paints veretnics/mages/heretics as a combination of spiteful children and communists, running around destroying Christian iconography in an act of spiritual rebellion to show their worth to the unclean forces. I'm also not convinced that the term 'unclean forces' would be a draw card for potential initiates.Chapter 3 added to my confusion as I found myself pulled between LOTR/vampiric lore & Dante's Inferno, summoning the names of nine demon princes that have no grounding in any medieval grimoire. Satan(el) visits us in a form I suspect is more LaVey than Eliphas Levi, and who is Princess Death or the Satan's two assistants, the demons Herod and Pilate?? (Update: I found them in Mikael Bulgakov's masterpiece, The Master and Margarita, well worth the read)It was however at this point that I stopped to do some more research. Not the Google kind, because therein lies the problem. As a non-Russian, searching for information that is uniquely Russian, Google is not your friend. I opted for searching on Yandex. Bingo, there are communities that follow this belief system.I came at this book from an (insert medieval grimoire) viewpoint expecting it to have a similar grounding, but it does not, and as my passion lies in the history of these things, and this book contains zero source referencing, I will pop this one in the bin. Let's not mention the 'spells' in the second half of the book.P.S. I would love to know the source/history of the nine demon princes.

Fascinating
Such a great book. The author sets out at the beginning telling the reader not to try any of the workings in the book; Russian black magic requires study under a mage before attempting any of it. It is still a very interesting book. Well written, clear, easy to understand, no flowery language. Covers a myriad of subjects. Russian black magic requires animal sacrifice. So be warned. This book is not for fluffy bunnies.

Disappointed
If you do the "spells" in this book, you're in for some serious trouble. I wonder if this is a book to keep people away from sorcery, because the information is misleading.
