Passing along personal history to immediate family members
I flew A-7E Corsair II's immediately following Viet Nam. My kids are always asking me about my flying days, knowing that precious memories will be lost with time and age. Other relatives who flew and survived earlier conflicts took most of their stories with them when they were promoted to angel. I wanted my kids to at least have pre-digital age pictures of the plane their father flew, planes that now adorn sticks in front of Naval Air Stations and aviation museums. The book is not all that thick but it is constructed on glossy paper with great photographs and stories. Additionally there is a listing of all the Navy squadrons that flew the A-7E, including mine. I bought three copies, one for each of my kids and one for my wife who even though she was a part of my Navy days she loves all things associated with Naval Aviation. The book is a great gift and tangible example of what Corsair II pilots did for the country, including their sacrifices. Well worth the money.

Recognition for some true patriots and stories for their children...
I'm a bit partial to this effort - my Dad's listed in here several times and all the information I have reflects the real accuracy and inside information this books shares with the reader. I especially appreciate the political notes that created many of the conflicts in Vietnam during the period between 1968 and 1972. As a military "brat" it was interesting to finally learn about issues that we were not expected to know about or have opinions about during this era. I always thought of these A-4 replacements to be "baby Crusaders" in their look - now I understand where they fit in why they didn't get the glory that the Phantom (F-4) did as a dogfighter... 'Guess my main reason for buying this book was to better understand the plane my Dad was flying on May 10, 1972 when the greatest dogfight in modern military history took place - and why "CAG" was in an A-7... All the details in this book appear to be well researched and I hope it will be considered a reliable source for any research into the air war in Viet-Nam. Too bad more pilots didn't get greater recognition for their efforts. At least my Dad was handed a Navy Cross for his A-7 ride that day! - Prof. Mike E.

How could this not be a Great Read!
I am another "partial" reviewer however with the fact Norm Birzer is my uncle aside I can assure you he and his coauthor Peter Mersky have put together one informative and well illustrated book here. I have had the special privilege of hearing many of my uncle's accounts first hand over the years and have always looked forward to doing so. This book is a reflection of the qualities I have come to truly respect him for, Detail and Accuracy.I highly recommend. Read this when it first came out around 10 years ago but just got my personal "autographed" copy in the mail today so I will be reading it again this weekend ;-)

All the A7s and then some!
My father and his wingman flew A7s in Vietnam. This book is a very thorough review of all of the squadrons and maneuvers before, during and after their time. It was an excellent way to get overall context.

Another Osprey Gem
As with all of the Osprey Combat Aircraft series, this one is full of antidotes and pictures. "The Units of" books are the best for modeling history reference. The first person narratives give you the action as it happened. The color plates show which and what livery each squadron wore at that time.

Marvelous!
I waited a long time for delivery, and then contacted them. Apparently, the first one they sent was lost in the mail. The second one arrived nice and fast, and it is a GREAT book. OUTSTANDING service by these people!!As for the book, I spent 17 years in the navy, all of it in A-7 squadrons. This book is amazing! Lots of pics of people I know, and things that I did. My grandson wants to know all about the Navy and the ships and the planes, and this book is a big help explaining it all to him. It is very well-written and easy to read. It brought back a lot of memories, and it brought back a lot of pride that I lost, thanks to "Hanoi Jane". It's a marvelous book!

Excellent Book!
I really enjoyed this book on the Corsair II. Growing up, I often saw the Ohio Air National Guard flying there version of the A-7 over our house. Later, the U.S. Navy retired the last squadron while I was on active duty . It is amazing how fast it came to the service and it's impact on the Vietnam War.

If you interested in any way of the aircraft, that took part in this, (WAR) (surely just a waste of Human life, material, and money,on BOTH sides for what, as is all WARS)but I must say, I still find these aircraft fascinating, any way back to thebook,as I started, these books (OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT) are a great series, if your interested in AIRCRAFT.PS Sorry if anybody finds this contradictable,

KINDLE IS WORSE THAN A PDF
Wanted a downloadable version of book. Thought this would be acceptable. Compared to a PDF its rubbish! A waste of money.

Great book saves trawling for the info, all in one book
Complete A7 Navy Corsair listings for the Vietnam War. Everything in one book, a great starting place for further research. This was probably the Sluffs finest and most colourful hour. Very highly recommended even as al coffee table book for those with just a fleeting interest
