Fantastic Collection
For those who love the classic Disney shorts, this is a must have collection. Donald Duck is one of my favorite Disney characters, and this has numerous shorts that have not been released since the 1940s. It may offend some people, what doesn't nowadays, but if you want classic Donald shorts, this is a collection for you. It not only has a bunch of the shorts, but also has bonus material. While you can't buy this new anymore, only used, and it is quite spendy, it is well worth it if you love the Disney shorts. These are unedited shorts, so while you can find some of these as bonus features on newer Disney DVDs or older VHS tapes, many of those were edited, these are not. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves the classic Donald shorts.

Donald's War Years Career
This two disc set in the Disney Treasures series picks up at the end of the first Donald themed release and follows Donald pretty much through World War II. Over the course of the two discs, we get 32 shorts from 1942 to 1946.Only a hand full of them are directly related to the war effort. Those are collected in a special part of disc one. These eight shorts were part of the earlier DISNEY AT WAR set, but it's nice to have them here, too. Most of them find Donald enlisting in the army and his misadventures with army life. There are some funny ones, like "Fall Out - Fall In," which finds Donald trying to set up a tent and survive an overnight hike and "Vanishing Private," where Donald accidentally gets covered with invisible paint. "Der Fuehrer's Face" is included as well. It's very much a propaganda cartoon and still a little frightening.Even the war finds its way into the rest of the shorts. For example, Donald complains about the construction of tires in "Donald's Tire Trouble." And it provides the inspiration for "The Plastics Inventor," my favorite from the set. In it, Donald builds an airplane out of plastic but discovers one drawback, it starts to melt in the rain.Another highlight is "Donald's Crime" in which Donald wrestles with his conscience after taking his nephew's money for a date with Daisy. As usual, Donald's temper takes over, although I rarely find I can blame him. Still, occasionally I find myself siding against him, like when he uses the lighthouse light to annoy a pelican in "Lighthouse Keeping."Once again, this set is great. The picture is clear and the sound good. The first disc includes an episode of the "Disneyland" TV show that focused on Donald. The second disc contains an interview with Donald's current voice, Tony Anselmo, and a tribute to Carl Barks, the man who created the Donald comic books. While Donald still isn't my favorite of the Disney characters, I laughed my way through this set. It should appeal to animation and history buffs as well as kids of all ages.

Great cartoons, but some are not well restored
We bought this installment of the "Disney Treasures" series when it was released late in 2005. My 9 year old son and I just watched these cartoons again (Oct. 2006) and we both love them. I would have to agree, however, with those reviewers who have noted that visually the cartoons in this Vol. 2 of the "Chronological Donald" were not restored to the same degree of perfection as those in earlier releases, including Vol. 1 of the "Chronological Donald" and the release containing many Donald World War II cartoons entitled "On the Front Lines". There is a clear difference in quality, which is apparent when the Donald cartoons previously released in "On the Front Lines" and repeated in this collection are compared to the cartoons that are new here. The former are visually superior, not because they were better to begin with, but because they have been more carefully restored and transferred. This is a shame. One hopes that in Chronological Donald Vol 3 (apparently not to be released in 2006, but perhaps in 2007) there will be a return to the quality of Vol. 1 and "On the Front Lines." One might even hope for a new, improved Vol. 2, but that is probably not in the cards.

The Golden Age Of Disney
It's been a long time since Disney has done something truly inspiring. This isn't to say Disney hasn't made any good animations, but it's been a long time since Disney gave recognition to the characters that FOUNDED the empire that now embodies Disney. Disney is concerned with making their movies as state-of-the art as possible, like "Chicken Little", which make nice eye candy for kids, but lack the magic and imagination of the way Disney is SUPPOSED to be. Well, with these cartoons, you can still see that magic of Disney. Nowadays, you have to go to Disneyworld to experience Disney's magic, or you can get these DVDs of these classic cartoons of one of Disney's most loveable characters : Donald Duck

Donalds quest continues.
The Walt Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald, Vol. 2 includes ALL the Donalds SHORT movies from the year 1942 to the year 1946. What the Chronological Donald, Vol. 1 started, this box continues. There are totally 162 original short films of Donald, and this collection bring 63-69, 73-78 and 80-97. If you are thinking of collecting all the 162 films here are the complete list what you must buy (note, don't buy any the mini dvd-boxes, where are only few scattered films): Mickey Mouse in Living Colors, Vol. 1-2 (there are many great pictures with Donald as a minor character in both of these volumes), Chronological Donald, Vol. 1-2, On the Front Lines. All of these are Walt Disney Treasures collection items, so they are quite easy to fing, but unfortunately they aren't cheap :( Rest of the short films will be appearing in future in Chronological Donald, Vol. 3 and 4. If you haven't started collecting, you better start it now!In this collection there are all time favourite classics like Donald's Tire Trouble, The Plastic Inventor, Cured Duck, Donald's Double Trouble and the oscar nominated gold nugget Donald's Crime. They have also added almost all the wartime pieces: Donald Gets Drafted, Commando Duck, The Vanishing Privete, The Old Army Game, Sky Trooper, and Der Fuehrer's Face. Some of these warepisodes are quite rare, and they can only be bought with this dvd-collection (or with On the Front Lines dvd-collection). There are some warpropaganda commercials, where Donald's character is used to rise the spirit of the american people, which isn't included. But I a sure you, you won't miss them!Recognized film critic Leonard Maltin introduces some of the films, and there are few extra documents concerning development of Donald. They are not much, but I think the primary contents of this collection, that is the short films of Donald, are enough to make you happy. If you really want to no more about Donald's history, his creators and perhaps even his psychological temper, there many good books, articles and internet sites. It goes without saying that everyone of the episodes in these dvds are must see for the fans of Donald. So if you loved Vol. 1, you must have this box. The Walt Disney Treasures collection series have already represented wonderful collection items concerning Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, Silly Symphonies, and of course Donald Duck, but I think this is yet the best of them all. These films will delight both childred and adults!

Excellent Product
I had ordered this product and received it within 3 days, and when I opened boy was I glad. Seeing as how these sets are out of print and I found Volume 2 for such a great price I decided to purchase it. The quality of the cartoon prints are really great and you can hear everything they say in the shorts. I haven't watched Disc 2 yet but what I saw from Disc 1 really brought back my childhood. Many people complain about Leonard Maltin talking the whole time, which he doesn't, he just introduces the DVD and The Vault section of the menu. The little poster and certificate of authenticity are great additions to this Tin set. If anyone wants to watch some greatly animated cartoons look no further than the Walt Disney Treasures Sets. I really enjoy this set and look to buying other sets from Disney. I think its worth the money for what you get.
