Beautiful collection, big quality photos with detailed descriptions

I've wanted this book for ages and it did not disappoint. Lovely pictures and great information.

I am giving this book a top rating. Informative, excellent photography and in all a beautiful book well worth keeping.

A fantastic book packed full of examples beautifully photographed. Have owned this book for yours and still dip in and out for references.

I own this book and it is gorgeous, but i also purchased a book called; Fashion. A History from the 18th to the 20th Century, or rather the other book was in fact two books and discovered that they are really the same books but with different layouts. I notice that the prices are dramatically different and just wanted to notify potential buyers about this. I hope this makes sense, check this out before purchasing !!!

As a fashion student this is one of the best books I own. The book is packed with photo's taken as musuem photo's rather then fashion shots. This means you get clear, close up detailed shots of the garments, which range from the 18th century to present. The selection of garments featured is huge, with something for everyone (from issey miyake to 18th century pearl inlayed shoe heels!). A MUST buy, and amazing value for money!

I had already read many reviews of this book when I decided I needed it badly. I didn't regret it: I can now happily browse trough all those amazingly well taken photos of fine fashion speciments.I only give 4 stars, for the sole reason that it took ages to reach my hands. I was promised to receive it around early or mid February, but it arrived late February. Moreover I could not find any meaningful trace information of my order.If we add on this that this was my second attempt (the first one was somehow cancelled) I had to wait about two months for the book.The condition of the book was superb, except from some minor wrinkles on the soft cover, maybe caused during the shipment, but in any case, giving the 1/4 of the price of a brand new one, it was really good value for money!

If, like me, you like your fashion reference books to have oodles of pictures, with a full description of each item, with close ups and historical/designer info as well as info about coonstruction, then this is the book for you!Every page is mouthwatering, with exquisite care and detail given to each photo and description, an absolout must have!

Being familiar with two earlier Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI) publications--The Evolution of Fashion (19th & 20th Century) and The Revolution of Fashion (18th Century)--I was excited to discover that Taschen had produced a new book covering fashions from the 18th to the 20th Century found in the KCI collection. Although I was concerned that this new book might just be a revision and compilation of photos from the two earlier exhibits (with, perhaps, some additional costumes to cover the second-half of the 20th Century), at 700+ pages, I figured there must be at least a few new entries.The book arrived today and I have been unable to put it down. As soon as I opened the book, I knew that my fears had been unfounded. The new book not only includes costumes found in the earlier books, but includes detailed close-ups of those costumes and many new costumes. The depth of color and detail in the photos is extraordinary. (Taschen is well known for the quality of its publications.) Although the text accompanying the photos is generally quite minimal--limited in many cases to date, description and the inventory number of each piece--it will often include some historical information in an introduction to a period or style. Moreover, many of the 20th Century entries are preceded by a short biographical sketch of the designer whose fashions follow.The KCI is well-known for its extensive collection of Western costume. One of the Institute's rather unique features lies in its presentation of those costumes. Rather than laying the clothes out flat, they are displayed on manikins in the manner in which they would have been worn--including shoes, hats, gloves, purses, fans, etc. Through this book, Taschen has succeeded in making the KCI collection accessible to the rest of the world.(As testament to the quality and beauty of this book, two co-workers I showed the book to today--people who are not costumers or designers--have placed their orders for a copy.)Without a doubt, this book will be a well-treasured addition to my library.
