If you mean standing on the edge yes it is but it won’t stop herons stealing your fish.

Would you suggest a matting/felt liner in the hole, or just sand?

The moulding is not particularly thick or rigid. I'd recommend that you double up and use both the felt liner and sand. Less risk of a puncture this way.

Is it really 40cm deep or is that rounded up? Also, would you think the design would allow me to build a "beach" at one end for wildlife to get out?

Wouldn't recommend buying. Picture makes it look quite solid but in fact it is flimsy and even developed a leak soon after fitting so i had to drain and use a pond liner. If i had my time again i would just use a heavy duty pond liner and then building a beach would be very easy. These "Rigid" pond liners are not very good.

Will it withstand a heron's beak?
