Need for speed in wet, muddy and loose conditions? Datura is the tire to choose. Sticky Soft compound, tall, wide-spaced knobs with micro-sipes for high-speed adhesion, exclusive Geax All Mountain casing, all inspire confidence on technical trails.

Good "Sturdy" rear tire for aggressive mountain biking
I rode this tire almost exclusively from 2006 to early 2012. It was installed on the rear wheel of my main All Mountain bike. To me, the pattern always looked like a good rear tire due to having big squarish blocks that won't immediately tear/wear off under pedaling or braking. Despite riding the tire roughly 3 times a week, averaging 12 miles a ride, I still got 9 months out of each of these tires. And I have some very steep trails around me so the brakes get used. The tires are large volume compared to most tires. Indeed, it is similar in casing size to a Hans Dampf 2.35. This adds loads of pinch flat resistance. This tire is true to size! A 2.25 tire actually measures to 2.25" with digital calipers. Compare that to WTB or Maxxis where you have to buy a tire marked 2.5 to just barely get past 2.3". WTB = "What's This Bullsh*t?" :)Weight is acceptable and durability is good. Never tore a single one of these.Rolling resistance is higher than a true XC tire as one would expect, but it's not outrageous. It doesn't have the highest level of braking traction, but it is predictable when it lets go. Makes sense since the rubber is not ridiculously soft.Inexpensive at sub $40! Compare it to a Hans Dampf at nearly $100 retail and this is a bargain. Consider also that a Hans would last all of a month in the rear and this tire is gold.So at the beginning of 2012 I decided to look at more modern tires and see if I could find a better all around rear tire. Tried Conti Baron 2.3 (measured 2.1, returned), Maxxis Advantage 2.25 (casing like that of 2.1, friend gets just under 3 months on it, returned), Maxxis Minion DHF 2.3 (measured sub 2.1, rejected), and Michelin Wildrock'r 2.25. I rolled on several Michelin's for a year and while the traction and rolling resistance was decent, longevity was not anywhere near as good as the Sturdy.Got back on the Sturdy's last month and all is well again. Another thing to consider: Due to the taller than average casing size, this tire mimics some of the benefits of 650b by rolling over or enveloping obstacles easier. All this without having to change frames or wheels. Please Geax, never stop making this tire. There are no good alternatives right now.

mean tires
so I am not a pro, nor an imaginary pro. I ride about 10-15 miles per week in the summer on mostly single track dirt and rocks, as the bicycle isn't my only pasttime. I put these on my Cannondale Jekyll in about 2013, front and rear, and they are still there as of 2019. the large lugs keep the goatheads at a distance and have outperformed the wtb velociraptors on my Gary Fisher in the mud. I thought they would make uphills a bear, but they aren't that bad, given their size and design. I know my review will be discounted by "hardcore" bikers, but I am assuming that not everyone purchasing tires on Amazon is a "hardcore" biker. these brake well and corners are fun especially when riding with others on more mild tires even in gravel. a great tire.
