Full Power Data
Lyman's 48th Edition was my first (of several) reloading manual and it has served me well. The loads are comparable and consistent with those in the other 9 manuals I have since added to my library. However, I sometimes read on web chat rooms that the "new" manuals have reduced many of the loads. Also, an article by Paco claimed that the one of my rifles, a 35 Whelen, would shoot a certain bullet 250 fps faster than any of my current manuals indicate AND that the faster load came from Lyman's 47th Reloading Handbook. I had to find out, so I bought it.It is true. Not only that, but there are significantly faster loads listed for every one of the calibers I shoot, including the 223 Remington, 270 Winchester and 458 Win Mag. It is true that many of the loads in the 47th Ed. are identical to those in the 48th Ed, or perhaps vice versa. But for most calibers there are also much faster loads. For example, for one load in the newer 48th Ed, powder weight starts around 40 grains and maxes at 47 grains for 2,200 fps and 34,000 pounds of pressure. The older 47th Ed includes loads that start at 54 grains and max out at 61 grains for 2,600 fps and 48,000 pounds of pressure.A careful reloader needs to compare and contrast the loads found in different manuals. This reloading manual opens up power possibilities I didn't know existed.P.S. - It also includes loads for lead bullets that I haven't found in any other manuals, like a 280 gr bullet for the 35 Whelen, the 405 gr cast bullet for the 458 WM, and a 170(?) gr cast bullet for the 270.

It pays to know, information is power.
I needed information on cast bullets for a 45/70 and the Lyman 47th edition reloading handbook had several of them. It's the kind of information that can save a serious to deadly mistake from taking a gun to the trash heap or you to the morgue. This kind of information is well worth having.

The best of its kind
Whether you have years of experience or just beginning to reload ammo this book has information you will use. What sets this manual apart from others is the diversity of component manufactures data used. Most reloading handbooks use data which only includes the products they manufacture. This one uses some of most every companies products. No handbook is going to have all the possible combinations but this one gives enough diverse information to make educated decisions. This handbook is the GOLD STANDARD of reloading handbooks.

This is one, of my favorite 2 manuals.
Lots of cast bullet load info. A treasure. Only the Lyman load manuals, give U a SUPERB intro to handloading, history of firearms, ballistics, etc. Of course, use modern manuals, for modern powders. But this should be a fantastic addition to anyhandloaders library. Good luck!!
