Freshwater Fish of the Northeast

The book succeeds as both a guidebook for fishing and an art book. It is well organized by color coded page markers into 22 families of fish. The book is the result of a father-son competition to see who could catch the greatest variety of species. The fish were caught, photographed and released and many of the illustrations were made from these catches. The text is a nice mix of both science and fishing techniques for the varieties of fish. The illustrations are wonderful and show the beauty of what we consider "common" fish.

This book is beautifully detailed. I have a 7 year old who has been obsessed with anything fish and fishing for years and when I saw this, I had to order. It has wonderful pictures and great information. He has over a 100 fish books and guides, and this ranks up at the top of them. Deffinently recommend for younger and older enthusiasts of the fish world.

Makes a good coffee table book

Great illustrations. It's not easy to find a fish book that focuses on New England Species

We love this book, and we don't even know anything about fish! The illustrations are gorgeous. I am an elementary school teacher, and children (3rd/4th) have loved looking at the detailed illustrations and reading little bits about each fish. It is a really great resource for animal lovers and art lovers alike!

This book seems to be aimed at the general public, especially those interested in fishing, rather than being a highly scientific field guide. The descriptions are interesting and informative but not particularly technical. The highlight of the book is the beautiful illustrations.
