Bernard Doove does it again!
His latest novel/anthology (hard to classify a book that is basically assembled from web-site installments) satisfies all us SF enthusiasts who like our characters soft and fuzzy. I've been reading this author's work for several years now and it just keeps getting better.Set in his Chakat Universe future-history, this is the story of the tramp freighter Phoenix. Martin Yote, her captain, is tasked with paying his uber-rich father back the start-up costs of his company within five years or else being forced to liquidate and take a subordinate position in his dad's company. Martin could have chosen any kind of business, but he picked shipping -- to his father's disgust as he said 'it's a mug's game'.Martin assembles a crew of several different species who were between berths, often due to unfortunate circumstances. And the crew quickly becomes a family, complete with cubs, kits and whatever. Will the Phoenix make a profit in time? Will the captain get the girl (for certain values of girl)? I won't say. But I will recommend you buy this and find out.[edited to add...]This book won the 2013 Ursa Major Award for best novel. I guess I wasn't the only reader who enjoyed it.

Wonderful story
It is a wonderful story from a wonderful universe that the author started and others have joined. May all of those who have contributed be blessed.

Fantastic story!
Whether your a fur or not, this is a fantastic sci-fi story based in a very trekky type dimension. Well written and worth reading at any level.

Tails up for the furry future!
Whether you consider this book a novel or a series of linked stories, either way it's pure fun. It's classic space opera, with a cast of characters who are humorous, tragic, quirky - in other words, easy to relate to and care about. I skimmed through the book fairly quickly, then immediately turned back to the beginning and re-read it. I have a feeling that I'm going to be picking it up again on a regular basis, and it's going to be on my "favorites" shelf (and on my iPad) in the meantime. Mr. Doove, you've gotten me hooked. Now, write more!

Great book!
It was a great story that kept me emotionally involved! There were some typos that took me out of it a couple of times when it made parts ambiguous, but not too bad. The chapter lusted as having a different author had a completely different feel from the rest of the book, though, and out did take me out of the experience a bit, and was the location of most of the typos. Otherwise, excellent!

Furry Star-trek is a great addition to your bookshelf
It takes alot of creative work to turn a universe from kinky furry yiff to a in depth sci-fi adventure. As a avid reader of Mr.Doove's literature, I can safely say he did his best work yet in this one.
