The first time I used this drive I did notice that it got very hot. I'm not sure why but upon subsequent uses it has gotten warm but never so hot that it slowed itself down or came close to causing any internal damage to the drive. I did not update the firmware and I formatted the drive as ExFAT. The size is amazing. I can stick this in a pocket easily. It's smaller than a credit card and my wallet is thicker than this thing. It comes with a USB 3 to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-C cable. So you'd think if you have a USB-C capable computer you'd use it and I almost always do but there are times when I have both my USB-C ports taken up so I'll use a USB-C hub to connect this drive with my other external devices. I only do this in cases where speed is not as important and I can afford USB 3 speeds. Usually this is when I'm backing up the work I'm doing on the T7 to another external HDD that is only capable of USB 3 speeds. There's no benefit to be had when you're transferring files to or from a USB 3 drive and a USB-C drive. You're limited to the slowest link in your chain. Now, when I do music production I make sure to keep a USB-C port free for this drive and the speeds are so fast that it's as if I'm working off my internal SSD. Almost no noticeable difference in speed at all. I use this drive with my M1 MacBook Pro for music production. I keep my Logic Pro sound library, all my logic sessions, and my own personal sample library on this drive. I connect over USB-C and the drive is more than fast enough to do music production directly off of it without having to transfer anything to my internal storage. All of my music production is now done directly off this drive and the only thing running off internal storage is my DAW itself. Audio and video production takes a ton of storage space so having a drive like this that's fast enough to run audio and video production from is a lifesaver. I no longer have to worry about how many samples or libraries I want to install and I can just buy a bigger T7 if I ever run out of room on this one. Generally, I will move finished sessions to a regular USB 3.0 HDD for archiving and this SSD is more for working directly from. There is one time when the drive can be just a bit slow. There is no lag time whatsoever when recording or loading files. The only time I see a lag is when saving a Logic project session file. I'll get a spinning beachball for like half a second. It's not a big deal at all but I know that if I was using internal storage it wouldn't do that. This slows me down by only half a second every hour. It's not even worth mentioning but I guess I am just to be thorough. I mean, this thing is fast as hell but in the end it is still an external drive and technically it's going to be just slightly slower than your internal drive.

Easy to work and connect. I bought this for my MacBook Air. I got this specifically for sims and its runs pretty smooth but if ur low on storage and looking to get this, its not the best due to how its runs through the MacBook system. No other issues other than it would magically unplug by itself at times.

It's fast and does what it supposed to do BUT it is SO super small, it could easily get tossed or lost or misplaced. It's smaller than a credit card which for me was disappointing. I wouldn't have purchased it had I know it was THAT small.

Probably great for regular computer use like files, photos etc., but this is absolutely not for creatives trying to boost their Mac a little bit. Good luck running os from this. All this thing does is consistently freeze and ruin whatever I’m working on to the point I have to unplug my machine and restart to get it back to normal. I have no doubt that even without it now, my computer is finished. A complete waste of money and a useless piece of equipment. Oh, all I do is about 10sec of stop motion editing with after effects and some Photoshop. I’m not even pulling that much for all of this to happen. It’s also deceiving because it should be easy to set up. It took me over 6 hours and I only got 2 programs on it that don’t even function. Seriously, save for a new machine.

While this drive has great storage and does run fast, there are many things that have made it very annoying to use. 1. The drive gets VERY hot. It doesn't happen every time I use it but when it does it gets hot enough that I don't want to touch it. 2. It constantly disconnects from my computer randomly. At first I thought it was my computer's ports that were causing the problem but I have read reviews of others having the same issue. It also constantly is telling me there is a problem with the drive but when it scans to fix it, there are no errors found. 3. It has been consistently randomly deleting some of my files recently. I don't have any idea what has been triggering it but sometimes when I go look for a file all of a sudden its just gone. NOT worth the $160 Upset with the purchase and wish I was still in the return window but unfortunately it has already passed

You will know that buying an iPad Pro with significant storage gets expensive very quickly. For example, the base 11” iPad Pro comes with 128Gb of storage for $799. Buy the 1Tb model and the cost increases by $700 to $1,499. So it made sense to take advantage of the fast USB-C (Thunderbolt) port on the iPad Pro and buy the $115 1Tb Samsung T7 SSD to use as external storage with my newly-acquired M1 iPad Pro (and M1 Macbook Air.) I have not noticed any real heat issue myself yet when the T7 is connected to the Macbook Air. But I do want to draw your attention to a security issue with the T7 when used with iPads… The T7 comes pre-loaded with a Security application for Mac computers. After a somewhat fiddly exercise - involving modifying the Macbook Air security settings to enable kernel extensions - I was able to get the Samsung security software working, so that a password was required when connecting it to the Macbook Air. I transferred some files onto the T7 as a test and then ejected the drive from the Macbook Air. So far, so good. However, when I then connected the T7 drive to my iPad, I was shocked to see no files visible on the T7 in the FILES application. And no clear way to enter the password to access the drive when connected to the iPad. Cut a long story short, Samsung Tech Support eventually confimed that iPad is NOT supported by the T7 and they do NOT have an iPadOS app available to access a secured T7 drive. I was somewhat surprised and disappointed by this, as a tiny, ultra-portable T7 drive can hold a LOT of data. Which would be a big security oncern if the drive were lost or stolen without the security of encryption/password protection. I was considering returning the T7, but then did a little research and found that it was pretty easy to use the Disk Utility app on the Macbook to erase the T7 drive and reformat as APFS (encrypted) file system, with the ‘GUID Partition Map’ scheme. Connecting the T7 to an iPad or a Macbook now requires a password to be entered before the contents of the drive are displayed. I now feel comfortable using the drive, knowing that there is good security in place should the drive fall into the wrong hands. Keep in mind a couple of points - APFS only works with more recent Mac computers. The reformat will overwrite the preinstalled security apps (Mac and Windows) from Samsung, so take a copy first if you want to retain them. The Disk Utility software I used is only available on the Mac computer. I would not have been able to do this with an iPad alone. Overall - I am very pleased with the T7 so far. I’ll update this review if any issues come to light. I hope anyone considering purchasing the T7 finds this review helpful.

much smaller than older drives and no issues to date

Got this delivered in 5 days (from US to Singapore), i would say pretty fast shipping. Slightly disappointed as the box is quite badly damaged in transit, but item inside remains fine. Came with 2 cables, usb a or usb c options. Used the usb c option to connect to my macbook air. did some transfers and also used it as a time machine back up. Although I didn't measure it, it seemed fast enough and I am pleased with the performance of it. Nice blue color, super light and smaller than credit card size. (thicker for sure). Runs a little hot during long transfers so hope it stands up to use. Price of this item fluctuates quite a bit so if you are not urgent, monitor for a good time to buy.

Bought this to deal with a slow iMac. Although only just over two years old, my iMac was painfully slow to boot up (usually taking 5 mins or more), get Mail and open programmes like Pages. I had long discussions with Apple support (who were great) but never really improved the situation very much. However, one of their staff said he ran his old Mac from an external SSD and he suggested I did the same. Hence buying the Samsung drive. It has been a revelation and the Mac is an entirely new machine, with a boot up time of less than a minute and near instant opening programmes and downloading Mail. It’s been brilliant and well worth the effort. The Samsung drive is tiny, a little larger than a credit card so it hides away under the Mac. Very pleased indeed.
