I so enjoyed Bob Mould
I went to a Bob Mould concert bin Nashville. I have been enjoying his music for years, from Husker Du to Sugar to a myriad of solo albums. Finally I got to experience his current trio live. I went with a friend. On his suggestion -- and he'd played in a band professionally for years, touring and such -- I got these to protect my hearing. I so enjoyed Bob Mould. However, without these plugs, I bet I would have had some hearing loss. They allowed me to hear the very loud sounds, in much of full range, without having ringing in my ears later. When I wanted to risk it, I could adjust them in my ear to achieve more treble (and volume). I never took them out completely though. When I get even older, I'll be glad I didn't. Hearing loss does not reverse. These are great, do the job, at a reasonable price.

Good for motorcycle riders
I bought these to wear while riding so I don't go deaf. They provide a fair amount of attenuation while still allowing for audio clarity. It would also work well for those playing in a band that want to hear well after a decade of blasting it to 11. I find them fairly comfortable while I have my helmet on, this is despite the fact that the plastic end sticks out a bit. Just don't shove them way in, then it can become a bit painful. For reference, I wear them for an hour at a time twice a day while riding to and from work. If you are looking for lots of attenuation I might suggest something else. These do make a big difference but noise can still be loud enough to hurt. I wouldn't recommend these for shooting loud guns or for people who work in very loud environments (canneries, constructions sites, etc).

NRR 12 -- ONLY! NOT NRR20!
I own one pair of these which states CLEARLY ON THE BACK OF THE PACKAGING-- Noise Reduction Rate 12 db. The technical details on amazon are WRONG. This is not an NRR20 rated product -- Hearos doesn't make that claim! If you want high NRR TRY THESE INSTEAD: Hearos High Fidelity Ear Plugs -- they ARE NRR20 rated, I also own a pair of them. However, this product, the "Long Term Use" version, reviewed here, IS more COMFORTABLE... but not as effective at reducing the noise. A major disappointment for me coming from the more effective plugs-- that's why I give it 4/5 stars (NOT because they are falsely spec'd on the amazon page). For some this may be just the right amount of noise reduction. But in my experience with both earplugs, you'll have to find the correct distance, depending on which set you go with, from the amps/speakers/stage to optimize listening AND safety. I wrote this review because no-one had mentioned that these are actually LESS EFFECTIVE at blocking out the noise, but quite a bit more comfortable than the other "Hi Fi" plugs. I can't yet speak to the Etymotic Research ER20 High-Fidelity Earplugs (White with Clear Stem) (equivalent to the NRR20 Hi Fi's), but I plan on purchasing them next. I bought another pair of these for my friend that is choosing comfort over protection-- so I took a picture of the back packaging and submitted it here for all to see! Amazon sometimes has a "submit technical details" button, but I can't seem to find it on this page... sorry, hope you read this first (assuming you care), or look at my image. Already submitted the tag.

The Only Ear Plugs I Would Use
While it fortunately doesn't too often cause problems, I have experienced some hearing loss as a result of performing loud music and attending concerts. For the most part I'm used to it, but I do have issue with tinnitus and sometimes struggle to hear people near me in a loud environment. It gets especially bad if I'm exposed to a loud concert. Although I don't think it's getting worse, I'm probably kidding myself. I've always been reluctant to use hearing protection, because most ear plugs just muffle the sound of everything, and it kind of ruins the experience of listening. I was planning to see Dinosaur Jr in concert and several friends absolutely insisted that I needed to wear ear plugs at the show. I had heard some sound engineer friends rave about HEAROS, and I figured if it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for me, too, and wow, I was very impressed. They claim to attenuate the audio evenly across the spectrum, and I believe it. Gone are the days of wearing earplugs and hearing a muddy sound like you're hearing it from another room or outside the venue. I've even worn these in band practice before, and been very happy with the results. I initially had a medium sized pair, but these smaller ones do seem to fit better in my ears. My only issue is that these seem to be kind of easy to lose even with the carrying case. You'll just have to be very careful if you get these, but I'm sure you won't regret it. If your intention is to block out all sound, then maybe these aren't for you, but if you just want to reduce the decibel level to something safe for hearing, these are perfect.

Work great; a little itchy
These work very well to knock a few decibels off the music at a concert or in a club. I found that the music doesn't sound much quieter (compared to foam plugs), but wearing them in high volume situations prevents ringing and hearing loss afterward. My friend and I wore them to a club, danced in front of the speakers for several hours, and were able to talk normally to each other after we left. Nearly invisible when inserted, though you know they're there and feel a bit like a robot with antennae. I wouldn't try wearing them while sleeping or if your ear will be coming into contact with anything. Like all silicone earbuds, they take some getting used to, and you might find your ears getting very itchy after a while. I have similar style earphones and I just accept that as the least uncomfortable solution, since hard plastic earbuds hurt my ears after a while and over-the-ear cans make my head hurt. The case is large enough that you can also fit a pair of foam plugs in there, in case you want to fully muffle the sound. Note: bought these and Etymotics ER-20s (blue tip) at the same time. The Etymotics were essentially the same, except they came with a smaller case and with a string for connecting the plugs together in case you want to take them out and wear them around your neck. I'd recommend both equally for their main purpose, so if you want the extras, consider the Etymotics.

Should be advertised as SMALL SIZE
I bought these to replace a pair of Etymotic Research ER20s Etymotic Research ER20 ETY-Plugs Hearing Protection Earplugs, Large Fit, Blue Stem with White Tip (Blue) that I lost. The Hearos earplugs are VERY small. I have to insert them much further into my ear canal than my ER20s (medium size - note they used to sell Small, Med, Large now they only sell Standard and Large, no idea how the new sizes compare to the old medium size I bought) plugs. Hearos doesn't sell a large size and they are much less comfortable because of this. They seem to work pretty well, although I haven't taken them out to the club yet, just some test listening at home on high volumes. I'm not really happy about the fit, I may see if my Girlfriend wants these Hearos and buy a pair of ER20s in large. I would have avoided these plugs if they clearly advertised that they were small, I do realize (now) that the product picture does say "New Smaller Size" but it isn't mentioned in the product description or title. Also note: I have very large ear canals. Most standard size earbuds fall out of my ears.

BEST AND CHEAPEST IN EXISTENCE!
I've tried several different types and brands of ear plugs to block out concert noise. These ear plugs are the best in several different areas. 1. INVISIBLE: when these are in your ear no one at the concert will notice. the clear tip is completely hidden! 2. BLOCKS OUT NOISE: these don't just muffle the noise they block the highs and the lows, sounds just like someone turned the volume down! 3. EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE: I can't wear ipod earphones longer than 30 minutes before they start hurting, but I can wear these ear plugs for hours on end without even noticing! 4. CHEAP! You cannot find a better price for high quality ear plugs! These were recommended to me from an industry expert and I whole heartedly agree! Amazing product, I bought a pair for my friend! PS: make sure your ear is clean before you use these, excess ear wax is gross.

Fit is misleading and ineffective
Be careful when inserting into you ear, the plastic piece may disappear and the ear plug will get stuck in your ear and potentially cause damage. I spent 30 minutes fishing it out of my ear and by the end of it my ear was bleeding. Hearos is a fine brand, but I highly suggest purchasing one of their other products and steer away from this one.

Works!
Just got a pair of these. Works as described. Have given it 4 stars as of right now because I haven't used it all that much but, having said that, it does protect one's ears from a loud snare from a distance of about 5 feet adequately. Also, I had to get used to getting a good seal for maximum protection; will be able to get a better seal faster the more I use it, hopefully.
