Good beginners book
This is a guide for beginning flint knappers. It's well written, and ive found it to be very useful . Good starter book, but it also works up to the trickier arrowheads for those who want to do that, and sooner or later we all do. I'm primarily interested in the ancient Paleolithic tools, but this book covers both.

Flint knapping how to book
Have not read the book yet, but it is well illustrated and they seem to be well thought out and help you to understand the concepts that are needed to understand so you can do basic flint knapping... Once I have read the book I will come back and do a more thorough review...

Flint Knapping by Robert Turner
Of the three or four knapping books I have read, this one explains things better than the others. It makes you want to go out and make something.

Excellent, Practical, Thorough
I purchased this book on an impulse as I often find myself on flint covered beaches and found myself wondering about flint knapping. I didn't know anything about the author or book other than a quick glance at the reviews on here. This book starts with a detailed description on how knapping technically works, with percussive shock waves penetrating the stone, and then moves swiftly on to practical demonstrations on how to use this knowledge to knap various things from a hand axe to arrowheads and everything in-between.Personally I find this to be a great starting place for learning about this hobby. The author even described a possible process by which flint is made in chalk deposits. Something I hadn't found clearly expressed online before. All in all, an excellent book which should provide me with a very solid foundation for future experimentation. Highly recommended.

A skill best learn by practice
A written guide on how to flint knap, A skill best learnt by practice, in a world where there are hundreds of high quality videos showing how to do it by the best knappers in the world, for free. So books need provide something more than just descriptions of what to do when it can be seen in a fraction of the time online. Books need to provide in depth knowledge of traditions, timelines, guides to what different cultures made. This book however goes little into that and is more a how to knap guide. The book has the limitation of being written by a novice British knapper taking advice entirely from modern professional US knappers. Which would be fine if it were a book on US knappng, but talks about European knapping which is described using US techniques and tools. The book mixes the traditions, moving from modern US diamond sawn obsidian slab pressure knapping to British nodule based flint percussion knapping, from Danish daggers to us Indian arrowheads, which would be ok if it was a book on world knapping, but just focuses on these two traditions alone. The book has a lot of virtues, and is a decent guide on how to knap, but very out of context.

An excellent book, full of tips from well earned practical experience, the best book on the subject.
Excellent book, with lots of useful detailed guidance on the many aspects of Knapping. It’s important to note that the underlying principles of knapping are the same if you are knapping as a pure ‘traditionalist’ with Antler and hammer stone, or as a modern era knapper with copper billets and metal hammers using sawn rock slabs. For this reason the author sometimes interchanges the various techniques, as this is actually exactly how most modern knappers tend to work. An excellent book which is a must have for knappers of all abilities.

Well laid out, interesting and comprehensive
An interesting and comprehensive guide to flint knapping. This book is well laid out with advice on tools and techniques. The instructions are easy to follow. The illustrations on the front cover are the best in the book - the diagrams and illustrations inside are basic to say the least but this does not detract from the usefulness of the book

Excellent value and extremely detailed
Wow! First class. For the price I thought this would be a basic how to "now go break some rocks and practice". How very wrong I was. This is a detailed and informative guide in the hows and whys of flint knapping, from choosing the right tools and materials to how to achieve the best results and why the techniques work. A cracking read.
