The Golden Triangle: Inside Southeast Asia's Drug Trade

Academic work about drug trade in South East Asia
This is an interesting and at times fascinating book about SEA drug trade, mainly seen from Wa perspective. Be aware though 🙂, it is NOT a real crime book, there are no undercover operations and no heroic shootouts. On the contrary it is an academic book and sometimes rather dull to read. Also (this is written in 2020) things might have changed since 2009 when the book was published. The drug problem in the rich world of course has not improved, which indicates that what poor peasants in Burma grow don't matter very much. Production can just move.

Great book
I highly recommend this book. It takes a balanced academic and anecdotal approach in exploring many different aspects (economics, political economy, social development, etc.) of the drug trade in the Golden Triangle (Northern Southeast Asia). I learned a lot!
