Giving it a rating of just a five star isn't good enough. On a scale of one to ten
Wow...this book is just out fricking standing. Giving it a rating of just a five star isn't good enough. On a scale of one to ten, this book would be above a twelve. Simply said; this book is totally off the chart. Those foks over at MUSICIAN INSTITUTE (MI) are pure genius when it comes to creating musical books, in this case the base guitar; that one can really follow simplistic instructions and play the base guitar, or improve on one skill, especially someone like myself, a self taught garage bass player. The book starts out simple and progresses slowly but the whole time the author is mindful of the beginner bass player, and before you realize it, you will be playing bass or have improved your playing, this book is that well put together. The best part is you do not need to know how to read one single music note. I highly suggest to none music reading players to familiarize themselves with the guitar fretboard as far as knowing name of the four base strings ( E A D G ) and recognize the mark frets that comes on just about ALL guitars and with some dedication and determination I promise you will succeed. It's that simple. I highly recommend this book to any level of player because it's more than worth it. Do your band or group and yourself a favor an order this book, or order one for an aspiring bass playing friend or child as well

Good excercises
This book is great for exercises. For anyone looking to play bass lines that are more complex than simple bottom and arpeggio figures then get this book. Also, it has some nice examples of how to develop playing in meters other than 4.

Exactly as described
First off I am only a few lessons in this book, but I skimmed through to see what all the book teaches. It is indeed basic concepts for progressive rock music. The lessons are fairly easy to understand, and most have detailed explanations with them. The CD is great quality and fits perfect with the book. I would recommend this book to intermediate and advance players, not for beginners.

it is a relatively poor basic guide to introductory concepts in bass
This book is poorly named, and misleading. Despite purporting to be about prog bass playing, it is a relatively poor basic guide to introductory concepts in bass, and not a great one at that.Do not waste your money. I might burn this thing.

Good start but far from a Master Class on prog Rock
There is a lot of interesting information in this book about scale, odd meter and technique in this book. But, if you are looking to learn how to play progressive rock you won't find it here. You won't find anything about structure, chords and how great progressive bass players play. Far from a Master Class on progressive rock.

No esta del todo mal, pero es excesivamente básico si buscas ideas imaginativas para crear líneas de bajo de rock progresivo. Para un nivel de principiante a medio.
