Realme X50 5G - Smartphone 128GB, 6GB RAM, Dual Sim, Ice Silver

Let me start by saying that the nearest equivalent currently available to this phone is the OPPO Find X2 Lite 5G, which is priced at £399, making this phone an absolute bargain!I’ve had this phone since yesterday and I think realme is definitely in the game now. Having bought realme 6 Pro for a relative I can compare both directly which would be a fair comparison I think given that both (Surprisingly) are not only made by the same manufacturer, but also selling for the same price.For the £299 you get an identical shell from the outside (Although X50 does not have the 3.5 mm headphone jack, they also decided to lower the flash light at the back by a few mm) but otherwise almost identical to look at. The X50 is also a bit lighter on paper, although you’d struggle to feel an actual difference.For the same money you get the convenience of having a more up to date chipset (Snapdragon 765 vs 720 for the 6 Pro), a 5G antenna and a slightly faster 120 hz display (Although to be honest? Nothing is wrong with 6 Pro’s 90 Hz display).You do however lose the 3.5 mm headphone jack as I mentioned earlier (Only useful if you don’t have a bluetooth headphone or a USB type C one), you also lose the Micro SD slot (But with 128 GB of storage? Again, I personally won’t miss it), downgrade to a 48 MP main camera instead of the 64 MP on the back of the 6 Pro, and last but not least, you lose 2GB of RAM, which haven’t affected this phone’s performance so far.There is a minor difference in the camera performance, not inferior quality but a narrower coverage angle (The 6 Pro’s rear 64 MP gives a slightly better, wider shot. The front also gives an ultrawide shot for selfie fans). Other than the camera? The 2 GB less of RAM has not affected the phone, yet!Also worth mentioning is that both realme’s X50 and 6 Pro came with identical batteries and chargers, it’s early days but given the 120Hz display, I’d say the battery won’t last as long as 6 Pro’s if you’re a gamer, it will undoubtetly charge as fast though so shouldn’t be a problem.I have reviewed the 6 Pro and I have always thought that it was overpriced, for realme themselves to launch the X50 and sell it for this price? I think it’s an eye opener, and definitely makes it harder for other manufacturers to compete with them, this phone literally is a game changer.Would I recommend it? For the price alone? Definitely!---------------Update 1:Like many people in the UK, I don’t live in an area with 5G coverage, yet. So when I went to an area with guaranteed 5G Coverage, and with a 5G SIM card in the phone, I was disappointed to see only 4G reception! Went to check the settings and a bad surprise was waiting, there is no 5G option available!Now I know the phone has the correct hardware for it, so I personally think it’s a software issue given that this phone has only launched in the UK a few days ago and realme might need some time to resolve some conformity issues, which will hopefully be rectified by a firmware update.I will keep my 5 Star rating because even with 4G network only, the phone still preforms beyond my expectations. I have visited my relative with the realme 6 Pro and compared boot up times and responsiveness, and the X50 is definitely the winner.I have also emailed Realme EU support as there’s no dedicated UK support. Will hopefully get an OTA update resolving the 5G issue soon.Will update as and when required, but I wouldn’t be put off with this, it still is a great value for money.---------------Update 2:Still haven’t heard anything back from realme’s support, but searching for solutions I came across many people having similar issues with OnePlus 5G handsets and O2. With realme, OPPO and OnePlus being different brands for the same company, I will put some money on realme having the same issues.I will be assuming that if anyone’s looking for a SIM Free phone then like me, you’ll probably have a SIM only contract that doesn’t cost you half your monthly income, and it seems like my service provider (Sky, running on O2 network) are bluntly stating that they’ll only support 5G on handsets purchased through them (Which I will never do).O2 used to sell OnePlus phones at some point but they seem to have dropped their support and OnePlus 8 owners seem to have serious issues trying to get 5G on their phones, with both OnePlus and O2 passing blame but without getting anywhere, leaving customers stranded with expensive handsets that aren’t fully functioning as intended.There is a workaround that will fix the issue (Tried and tested on OnePlus phones, highly likely to work on realme phones too), includes some serious programming and coding work to change the carrier policy on the phone, to be honest? I’d probably try it if I was bothered about 5G, but I’m not.Given the price point of the phone, I will be keeping it and continue to use it, if the 5G issue gets fixed via an OTA update then happy days, if not, it’s still an incredibly good phone for the price.---------------Update 3 – 06 May 2021:A week ago, this handset updated to Android 11, and not only that, but I can now use 5G on Sky, I can also use VoWifi and VoLTE!I got a OnePlus 8T while it was ‘reduced’ to £399! 5G is not working, neither are VoWifi or VoLTE!This phone is IMPRESSIVE! A few months on, it’s still a real game changer, and a flagship killer!

Ok so I've had this phone for a week now and it's just fantastic. Having previously always bought flagship Samsungs I am beginning to question why. The Realme X50 is all the phone a standard user could want and more.It has all those basic flagship features like face recognition, fingerprint sensor which all work perfectly. It's full glass construction and feels premium when you are using it. It has an array of cameras however I just need point and shoot nothing fancy. It's smooth and quick! The UI has no issues at all and 120hz makes scrolling very smooth.And finally battery life is exceptional!! I'm getting nearly 2 days standard usage from one charge!For the price it's a complete and utter bargain!! You can change phones yearly for this sort of money.

Edit 20/5/21A summary given all previous considerations is below. Despite several stupid issues and no support, it's obviously a great device.+ Overall, amazing build, style, performance and feature set, it is one hell of a phone, especially for the price+ Latest thing I noted is the brightness dimmer goes way down, that's actually useful if listening to YouTube without watching+ Screen is great+ Sound quality is incredible - punchy, loud, clear- Poor after-sales support- Input of PIN doesn't keep up, you have to type it slowly - very stupid and annoying- Vibration on individual apps (or in my case seemingly most apps) doesn't work at all - appalling bug- Incredibly annoying and ridiculous "feature" whereby phone vibrates for a failed login. However this will happen all the time just from picking the phone up briefly as it uses face recognition. There is no way to disable this, I've already stopped using fingerprint scanner to limit the incidence of it. Zero help from Realme. It's so annoying.Edit 2/5/21Docking a star for poor support: STILL no fix for the constant vibrate when you go anywhere near the main button on the phone. TERRIBLE feature, at the very least there should be an off setting.Also, PIN entry has a major bug, it doesn't work unless you pause and enter it slowly, it's really, really annoying and again I cannot believe they can't be bothered to resolve it.Edit 11/1/21Still very much enjoying this superb device, but a couple of things Realme cannot or will not respond to, and features needed, means I'm docking a star:- As with other Realme phones (and I assume other Android 10 devices), there is an infuriating vibration if finger/thumb unlock fails or you pick up the phone or look into it (facial recognition fail). Both of these unlock methods work really well anyway, it doesn't bother me to try again, reposition my finger or whatever. All this vibration does is waste battery and motor life. I've queried with Realme six times and they just refuse to reply intelligently, avoiding the question, stating what I've already told them etc. Poor! Edit 15/1 - they still can't answer properly (over and over again they say it happens for "unauthorised access" - TOTALLY missing the point that it's the user who is irritated by it, but they did manage to confirm it's a feature that can't be disabled. They said it might be resolved with an update, I hope so, DREADFUL feature.- I cannot get vibration alert to work, I've tried all sorts of settings and combinations. With my last phone, I simply get it to vibrate mode, and then SMS and WhatsApp default to vibrate, simple. How can the user experience be going backwards on such a common function?- No notification light.Edit 9/12:My battery seems fine, but it seems somehow to drain very much if I leave wi-fi or data on overnight. The behaviour hasn't been consistent, hence the alarm. I'm not sure which is draining it quicker (wi-fi or data) and whether it's connecting to 5G (which is in my area but not necessarily indoors all the time - can't tell as the phone's icon is simply too small to see). Perhaps there was a background app also causing an issue? In any case, I've tested by routinely killing apps and turning off wi-fi and data for long periods; battery then lasts ages so it's not a battery fault. So all seems OK, I think, though some questions unanswered about overnight drain.Edit 6/11:As mentioned by other users, battery keeps draining. I'd hoped it was a one-off as it seemed to resolve after restart and recharge, but alas not. Extremely disappointed.Quick edit/update (24/9/20): Having used the phone for a few weeks now, I'm really impressed with it and enjoying it. The issue with the main button hasn't got worse, so I don't think it's defective, more just not as responsive as it could be, perhaps not the best quality, it just mean occasionally I click it and nothing happens. Having not owned a recent, high-performance phone, it's amazing seeing how quick it does basic things. Even just selecting a snap to email, it's on another level to what I'm used to. My rating would be 4.5, I really think Amazon need to allow half-points or use a 10-point scale. The difference across 20% margins is too much to not be able to differentiate.Original/current review:Amazing spec and performance. Looks and feels fantastic, will smash other more expensive phones yet feels high quality.I'd like a headphone jack; although I bought an adapter, I prefer my phone to be the right way up all the time and not have to swap the adapter when I plug headphones back into other device.No notification light, FFS. Second time in succession I've forgotten to check before buying, though as I'm used to that from my old Moto G, I'd likely have bought it anyway. I wanted this phone for 5G, and there's little else that can touch the x50 at this price, with 5G.I'd like to be able to turn the vibration off when it fingerprint log-in isn't accepted, it's not necessary and is annoying.Slight concern over main button side, it will click but not action anything if you don't press hard enough. Perhaps a good thing as not too sensitive, and OK if it stays like it is, but I hope the switch won't fail in time.All other features are as spec, and everything is just really well presented and neatly done. The UI is great, the menus are fine, it's got dart charge....it's just all-round impressive.

For the price this is amazing, I mainly bought this for the chipset and 120hz refresh rate so that I could play pubg at a decent level and it runs it amazingly quick, for comparison my pixel 3a xl although runs pubg ok could not compete with this. This allows everything to render quickly and at a decent speed to kill some pro players. This has 120hz refresh rate !!!!!! Games run awesome.Anyway everything else is amazing as well, the camera is ok nothing special and not even as good as my old pixel 2 xl but it is ok and you can get some ok shots and plenty of options.Face recognition is brilliant, finger sensor is on the side and works well.Battery is brilliant, very fast charging that tells you precisely the level it is at and shows it going up in small increments.I like the display, shows up well outside and I do prefer lcd.Hard to beat for the price and it has 5g.Only downside is it's not waterproof so be careful. It comes with a case and screen protector already on so no faffing around.Very fast and smooth with the chipset 765 plays demanding games beautifully.Best buy this year. Hardly no bloatware as well.In closing show me another phone at £279.00 as good as this!

I have had very small phones for the last 2 years because I like not having half the phone sticking out of a pocket but seeing this phone at a reduced price the temptation was too much and what a phone it is. This is just a beast and well worth the cost and then some. I can't see why a phone need 6 cameras on one phone but most of them are very good the wide view one is the only one that just looks weird to me but others might say it's great. I see other reviewers had no 5g option to select but mine with this option straight out of the box. I think the best things about this phone are the screen which is great and speed software on the phone is amazing and the battery life is the best of all and one thing I wasn't expecting was to be able to use a OTG adapter and run a passport 1TB drive from the usb type C port.

Unbelievable you can get a phone this good for this money these days. This is not a flagship phone, but it is 75% of one for under a third of the price!CONS:No Amoled screen, dark scenes a struggle.Camera ok but not winning any awards.Single speaker.PROS:IPS LCD is better in sunlight.Crisp visuals FHD+Chews through PUBG + COD with ease.Tough, gorilla glass 5 front and back.Sounds fantastic over Bluetooth.Super quick charging.Great call quality.Superb battery life.Realme UI easy to navigate + great featuresWater cooled, 5G, 120htz on a £299 phone!Bottom line, my last phone was an Huawei mate 10 Pro which was a flagship phone two and half years ago and, with a few pluses and minuses, on balance this stacks up pretty close. No Amoled and a camera that's not gonna blow your mind, but latest 7nm processing with 5G and some cool new doohickies thrown in makes this a great phone. If you don't want to take out a second mortgage and sell a kidney to pay for a contract on one of today flagships, then this phone is more than capable of keeping you on a cheap SIM only deal while still making you feel like your holding some premium tech!

Comming from a OnePlus 7 Pro i was a bit worried about the quality, but so far the phone has been great! On the plus side; No Amoled screen so it is actualy possible to use in sunlight (7 Pro was terrible), and no worries about burn in screen (as 7 Pro). THe screen looks great and smooth (120hz) and the battery is very good. On the X50 5G i have a SoT for about 9-10 hours vs 7 Pro 4-5 hours with 60hz. And for the 5G it has multiple bands so it would be possible to use in many countries. On the small downside: it has no In screen fingerprint, just on the side and the phone is a bit heavy. But for the average person i would say this is a great phone, and for the price of only 299 GBP + shipping to Norway it feels like a great buy!

Bought this after a lot of investigation into phones. Was an HTC follower for years, never had a bad one, now there are none to buy any more.. so here is the best phone available for me. Considered the new Oneplus Nord, but wasn't keen on colour nor price when it appeared. Looked at this and decided to buy the Ice, the moss/forest green looked a bit too vivid.. shipped in 3 days, 10 days earlier than promised! Not much in the box, European charger, a cover, no instructions worth their salt..had to migrate data from an HTC U12 life. There's a Clone Phone app on the phone recommended to use to get data over to the X50. I suggest that anyone who buys this phone NOT try to use it...scan doesn't work for migration, so that's as far as I got before giving up. Make sure you have a Google backup, if you had an Android before, all contacts, bookmarks, applications etc came over no problem. SMS didn't transfer so if you need them, back them upand restore some other way.That's the "bad" part out of the way so the good/excellent parts.. this phone is absolutely beautiful to operate.. screen may not be OLED, but it's bright and crisp. The screen refresh rate is smooth and fluid even at the lower setting. Only issue I have us the lack of instructions as I can't find any way to set the network to 5g if you had access to 5g. Maybe the phone can pick up the difference automatically? The selfie camera cut outs don't have any effect on looking at the screen, at least to me. The glass front and back of the phone are stunning, the pre installed screen protector isn't visible or affects the screen and the design on he back is really something to see in the light. At about 205 grams, I thought the phone would be heavy, but I was surprised at the "feel", even in the pocket. The Operating System and setup is quite different to my old HTC, but it's great to use and quick to respond. I've had to make some "allowances" getting used to it, but it's really easy to adapt. Haven't used the cameras yet, so can't comment on quality, but if that are anything like the rest of this phone, I'll be really happy. Altogether a super phone and Is recommend it for the price, for the quality and for the build. A 5g phone like this one will be hard to beat.Update: the phone automatically, as far as I can see, picks up whatever network is available..4g or 5g..found a lot of little extra features while setting it up to my requirements. There's a little hidden screen to the top right which allows a number of shortcuts etc. The more I have used it, the better I think the phone is. Takes a bit of time doing all you might want to for personal preferences, but it's all there. The search feature in settings is excellent.
