A CLASSIC! I use for HOME DECORATIONS now!
I'm 57. I remember Magic Rocks from my childhood, this is a CLASSIC toy, and it's so hard to find in a brick-and-mortar store these days. I purchased this set to use in a small round glass aquarium I got at the Disney Store in the 1990's...it has Ariel, Sebastian and Flounder on the front. It looks great with water and the magic rock formations in the background! It doesn't last forever, and eventually the formations will break down, no matter how careful you are with rinsing and replacing the water now and then, it does tend to get funky after a while. But it makes a pretty decoration in my Mermaid Aquarium. Don't ever try to put live fish in a bowl with magic rocks....they will die horrible tiny deaths. So...buy a few boxes to keep on hand and use your imagination to grow them in clear glass containers for special temporary displays or decorations! (Like parties and such!) (And it makes a terrific distraction for grandchildren on rainy days!) Follow the directions and measure everything carefully...nice lessons for the kids, too!

These rocks grow quickly and it's fairly easy to do
These rocks grow quickly and it's fairly easy to do. The only thing is that the rocks that grow are very thin, or at least thinner than I expected. Still, a cool gift and worth the money.

Plastic tank had a big crack right out of the box
My seven year old couldn't wait to get this. Checking every day for when it was going to arrive. When it did finally arrive, he was so excited to start growing the magic rocks. Then... ...opened the package and the plastic tank was cracked (big crack right on the front of the tank). He didn't want to have to pack it all up, send it back and wait for a new one so we decided to try super glue it and use it anyway. The glue has held so far and the magic rocks were fun for him anyway - the crack in the tank didn't really take away from that. But, to get a new toy only to pull it out of the box broken was kind of a bummer. Three stars for the packaging not withstanding shipping and being delivered broken. If it had arrived in good condition, then this would have been a four star review.

Cute project
I bought this for my kids because I always wanted one when I was younger and never had one. It was cool to watch and simple enough to do, but it happened really fast. I guess kids nowadays don't have the patience to watch it grow over several days

These suck.I made sure everything was so sterile and they aren't at all like the picture. I gave 2 stars only because they grew pale whitish little stalagmites that were vaguely interesting.

Of course she loved them and we all had a good laugh
A classic...bought these for my mother in law as we always have a running joke that if you don't know what to get her, go with magic rocks. Of course she loved them and we all had a good laugh. Just as I remember them when I was younger.
