You’ll enjoy every memory they share because they’ll remind you of motorcycle memories of your own. Fred ‘Bro’ Smith takes you back to the 1950s: "I was never a 'star' rider. I just liked to race. I got to know some pretty famous racers, shop owners and officials along the way. I also got to ride on some famous race tracks and in some important, for those days, events. These are my memories from 50+ years ago." Wayne Hosaka writes about the 1960s : ”In this wide open field there must have been ten guys on 40 cubic inch Triumphs, BSA’s and Nortons lined up handlebar to handlebar, clutch levers pulled tightly against the grip, motors revving higher and higher . . . My excitement had built to a frenzy as the starter threw the flag and the riders dropped the hammer and flew out of the starting gate throwing dirt and dust 20 feet into the air . . . " Steve Kukla rounds out the memories with the 1970s: “We unloaded the Bultaco at the top flats, strapped a helmet on and took off. Surprisingly it started right up. I was even surprised at how much horsepower it had. You can imagine how amazingly surprised I was when coming back toward Jim the bottom half of the front forks and wheel fell off while pulling it into a wheel stand." These are the Good Old Days is a compilation of articles written by the three authors that appeared in the pages of S&S Off Road Magazine over a period of about 15 years. We ARE in the Good Old Days. - You start reading and suddenly you're back in those good old days of yesterday, where everything is new and where you accumulate scrapes and scratches like dogs collect fleas. But. If you can't quite do it like you did, at least you can revisit it in this delightful read. - Michael Torrusio, Reviewed 10/2/22 Brings Back a Lot of Good Memories - Nice review about the racing in the 60s and 70s. I never lived in San Diego. I was a North Hollywood dude. Like all the guys in the book I lived like that. Every Friday night at Ascot I was a pit man. Our club, the Lost Angels, helped put on the first AMA National Scrambles at Perris in the late 50s. Came down to El Cajon with the L.A. racers many times. I won the Open class at the first Tecate 100 lap in 1956 I think it was. This book brings back a lot of good times down south has we called it. Not many of those guys or bikes are still around and only a few of the tracks. Thanks for sharing. - Chuck Minniear, Lost Angels MC These are the Good Old Days Motorcycle Memories Delivers - Informative, easy read, loaded with little jewels of information and facts not generally known among many enthusiasts. It gives the reader a sense of what it was like to be there. You can almost smell the fuel, feel the wind in your face and feel the excitement as you twist that throttle. - Debbie Matthews, WSMX-Women’s School of Motocross Review: He writes like he would tell a story ….. - I loved reading that book ,it really tells about the good ol’days of motorcycle racing .When you read the book you wish it could keep going for ever . Kind of remind me : The road by Jack Kerouac. I will definitely read it again ,again and again …… Denis Review: historical facts of this book are spot on - I lived not far from the editor of this story Steve Kukla in the 70's and 80's and rode motorcycles in all of the places he mentioned and know alot of the people he spoke about. It was a great memroy to relive again and those memories are what helped me as a father to share with my own family and we have been making those same memories going to the desert and enjoying and respecting the outdoors. They helped me and my family grow into positive people we all are today. Thanks for the great read. Corky Weeks

Brings Back Memories
I rode a motorcycle in and around Chula Vista in 69-70. This was a nostalgic trip through what was going on then. The short chapter stories of motorcycle riding, racing and off-road mishaps provided a week or two diet of reading I enjoyed. Steve Kukla even provided the name of my favorite canyon riding area, the name of which I had forgotten after 50+ years. Thanks for the memories!

Great history lesson of the begging of off road riding
This is a great history book about the 3 writers. It is hard to put down and so well written. I like the honesty of their stories sharing the sad days and the happy days. I highly recommend this book.

Just like I remembered…..
Excellent stories about the grand old days of motorcycling from a fondly remembered era. Well written and entertaining, it brings back the aromas of two stroke exhaust and well-worn leather, and the sheer joy or riding with buddies before all the trails were fenced off. I would love to see a volume two.

The Good Old Days
This book reflects just what it is like sitting around bench racing with older California racers and off road riders. Captures the spirit of the motorcycle racer who dealt with injuries the way rodeo and ice hockey players do: laugh it off, shake it off, and get back to the sport ASAP. Tells of the time before California was so overpopulated in urban and suburban areas that we could actually have a little fun. Those were times before the obvious environmental hypocrisy was embraced: off road riding was strictly prohibited in open areas due to potential environmental damage only to be followed by developers covering the land with concrete. Those were the Good Old Days.

Motorcycle Stories from the early years.
Grew up in the 70’s riding motorcycles. This book took me back there. Riding to school and work during the week. Lights off riding trails with friends on weekends. Fantastic read.
