Smooth Shifting
I am a bit of a one for looks and really like the look of this, but the observant will notice I have this fitted to a nine speed, I did look on the internet to see if this 11 speed would work with a nine, the answer seemed to be yes as the shifter determines the amount of shift, so I went for it. I have to say what I read was partly right, this does work with a nine speed and very smoothly as well, the downside is it only works with seven of the cogs, I could run it using the first seven or the last, I set it for the larger cogs, it's all to do with how much travel the rear mech moves to the amount of movement on the shifter. Is there a way round it?, yes fit a Sram X5 nine speed shifter it's a 1:1 and it works, I have nine gears now and still nice and smooth. I need to see how this goes longevity wise, the old Shimano Deore that I had fitted to this before had done thousands of miles and was at least 15 years old, it's done well with just replacement of pully wheels but was starting not to shift quite as well and as I have converted this bike to a mid drive e bike gear shifts need to be smooth to avoid damage, so far this is working well.

Bike or Hike?
I was surprised how easy the derailleur drop down was to fit. Once I’d removed the old one from the spokes of the rear wheel!! I thought I might have an issue with the gear cable as it had been caught up too, but it was intact and serviceable. I unscrewed the Allen bolt and then after admiring the workmanship that went into this marvel, I cleaned the chain which was clogged with grease and realised I might have been lazy in not doing good maintenance on it. It wouldn’t have taken much to have a stone trapped in a link or two!! Sorry, I digressed - that went into this marvel. I installed it with ease and made an adjustment to tune the positioning of the shift. Oiling the chain and also the cassette will be something which I will do in future maintenance tasks. Yes it’s a very good product for the money, but like me if you don’t maintain your bike you might have a few miles to get home, and who wants that! Eh?

Fits perfectly over the original that it replaced
Son managed to trash his existing one over some rather horrible curbs on his paperround. This set fitted perfectly on his bike and the build quality is brill. Works perfectlyl with his cassette already on the bike. Installation was easy, but it did require some care remembering which order to put things back together and how the chain goes on, but this is more cycle maintenance, rather than product related. It has now been on his bike for 10months with no issues, both to school, paper round and off roading at the weekend. Great replacement

Nice Derailleur, BUT
I bought this has NEW and it seems to be, but when i received it, it was not in your normal shimano blue box NO instead it was in a little clear plastic bag and then wrapped in bubble wrap with one page of the shimano warranty, i thought this strange, because all the other 100+ shimano derailleurs i have bought over the years came in a box, a blue and gray box with shimano on it with the all warranty booklet in there with it too amazon.

Excellent for a single 11 speed MTB drive train
I bought this to replace an XT that broke after 7 years of heavy MTB use. I am very pleased with its performance, gear changing is smooth and fast with a Shimano XT M8000 11 Speed I-Spec B Shifter. It also seems to be a more robust piece of kit. Being able to move two gears up on a single push makes a big difference. The larger 13 tooth cogs also seem to help and hopefully will last longer than the usual 11t that wears out quickly. If you have a problem with the chain coming off the bottom gear when changing check to see if the derailleur hanger is loose and apply some thread lock. On that subject, depending on which hanger you have on your bike you may still need a Rear Derailleur Mech Hanger Extender Drop Out Extension to fit it. As I use a 30t front chainring I only need an 11-42 cassette on the rear and this derailleur is nowhere near its full capacity. I also only need a 114-link chain. Highly recommended.

Cheap and cheerful derailleur
I had major gear skipping. Changed gear cable, purchased a derailleur hanger tool and also bought some spare hangers. I had reindexed numerous times but no go. Last thing to replace was the derailleur itself and that fixed the issue. These are solid derailleur and not overly expensive if they end up damaged!

Typical Shimano quality.
I recently upgraded my mountain bike's drivetrain to the Shimano Deore M5100 rear derailleur, and I am absolutely thrilled with its performance. My new bike came with SRAM SX, which was, quite frankly, horrendous, and I have always hated their shifter ergonomics. This improvement is genuinely remarkable. Paired with an SLX 11-speed shifter and a Shimano chain, the shifting performance is top-tier. The clutch is a must-have for any serious off-roading, and this one works as well as any other. The aesthetics of this derailleur look very classy. As far as I am concerned, you just can't beat Shimano's mid-tier mountain bike components

Gut.
Made in Japan. Sehr gut verpackt. Funktioniert. Zumindest bei mir. Ich fahre immer gleichen Gang ohne zu schalten.

Never disappointed with Shimano
Deore is the entry level for high quality Shimano drivetrain. Im not a professional biker, I dont do downhill races, but I do like to push myself and my hardtail to the limits. This derailler can easily handle it. It is built strong and the materials are durable, I highly recommend.
