Are these a soft or hard plastic?

Soft and fluffy. Be sure to toss them in the dryer on a no heat setting for a couple of minutes. They come out of the bag looking terrible but are great after the dryer.

It’s artificial right?

Yes, but you can't make out until you touch. It was perfect for my house warming decoration

is each string 5 ft long?

No, these are only 4 ft long. Product description is misleading.
