I wish I'd bought this sooner!We have a new-build garden with incredibly compacted, rocky, loamy soil, and digging planting holes with a shovel was an absolute nightmare. Planting just one medium-sized potted plant was taking me around 30 minutes because I kept hitting stones and hard-packed ground.This auger has transformed the job. It cuts through the soil brilliantly, and I can now dig a perfectly sized planting hole in under five minutes. It's solidly built, feels very robust and is excellent value for money.Even my wife (who's the actual gardener) was sceptical when I ordered it, but she's been thoroughly impressed after seeing how well it works.Instead of spending a week of evenings battling rubbish soil with a shovel, we're now on track to get the whole garden planted in a single day. If you're dealing with a typical new-build garden, I'd recommend this without hesitation.

We replaced the holding bolts right away as the ones that arrived snapped almost instantly. This could be because we live with Devon clay soil. But in raw function this is an excellent auger, we can use it to dig down just about 70cm. It takes a little practice and you need a "nack" to get it working but when you do it works a dream and far less than a powered version. We have used it to put in gate posts and fence posts. Normally a combination of this auger and then the post bangers to finish off gives a really strong tight and stable fit.

I am very happy with this purchase so far. Strong and does the job and able to tunnel through clay and stones with ease. As reported by others, the screws holding the handles do come loose and need retightening but that is not much of a problem.

Quality tool

Very well made piece of kit which fastens together very strongly. The handle and tubes are very thick steel and I had no. trouble getting down to 600 mm in undertaken 5 minutes of easy effort. Wish I'd had one of these for the last 50 years. Excellent value and quality! 👍✅

Easy to fit together, just make sure everything is fitted tightly (spanner included, but need another to hold the bolt to tighten) I would recommend using a socket set and spanner.Dug a hole in clay soil with bricks and rock with ease, highly recommended and should have purchased one years ago to save my back.Purchased a few VonHaus recently and can’t fault the quality to be honest.

This a good sturdy piece of kit for your domestic garden. It’s nice and large and heavy. It doesn’t look flimsy at all. The only issue I have with it is that you really have to push on it to get it to remove some dirt. I know at the moment the ground is really dry, but I was hoping for a better result than just scraping the surface. At the moment, my job has stopped because I’m not getting any results. Maybe it is for soft already dug over soil and not the hard ground that we have at the minute. I might have to resort to a bit to fit in a drill, which I was hoping to avoid.

Excellent investment for a project involving fence and gate posts. Bought the larger diameter and found this was good for both the slimmer fence posts and the larger gate posts. There is a knack to using - don't go too deep at one time - but far easier than struggling with other tools.
