Unique Stories of Women Loving Women!
Excellent writing that draws the reader into the feelings and emotional tensions of each storyline!Thirty-five uniques stories of relationships between women of all ages and circumstances. These focused first-person vignettes each emphasize a specific experience in a woman's life where she sees, does, reacts to, or causes in an emotional event between two or more women. The author's vivid storytelling shows the ups and downs, the benefits and challenges, of the full range of same-gender relationships. No two stories are alike, revealing a different time, setting, and ensemble of characters. Wow!The author's skillfully portrays each account with different voices, tones, personalities, and emotional intricacies, making this collection an interesting study of the realities known through these deep and often intense relationships.Even the story formatting changes from story to story, creating an interesting perspective of the female psyche and its varied expressions. Better understood and appreciated by more mature audiences, these fictional accounts reflect a more believable reality, especially in those with a darker tone. It would not surprise me if many or all stories had truthful origins.I did not especially like the long paragraph format of most stories, which might be more appealing to readers by breaking up the paragraphs to add value, especially to those written with a stream-of-consciousness format.I suggest taking several moments between stories to fully grasp and absorb the author's intentions and possible interpretations. This extra time also prevents unintentionally linking together two or more stories when none are related. This book was recommended by a colleague who read the Portuguese original version. Although the translation was excellent, there were times I felt I was missing several nuances and idioms not transportable into English.I appreciated the well-narrated Audible supplement that added value to my reading enjoyment.I look forward to reading more by this author on one of her other people-focused works.

Ups and downs, but worth a read
I'm somewhat conflicted on this collection of stories. Many of the short stories are very well written—unique characters in a variety of interesting situations with rich worlds and poetic (but not pretentious) narrations. Many of them are darker/bleaker than I would have liked, but they are still well done. I particularly enjoyed "Grandma, are you a lesbian?," "Flor," "Amora," "Aunties," and "Aunt Betty."However, every few stories one would crop up that was just.... dull. Or extremely wordy. Many of these felt like they failed to go anywhere (some are simply slice of life, but others fall short of even that) or failed to reach their full potential. Towards the end of the novel there are a number of one to two page stories that were so far abstracted they became disconnected from the rest of the collection and honestly, rather forgettable. It was a sour note to end on.

3.5 Stars
These are random lesbian stories about love—all kinds of love— healthy and unhealthy, curious, codependent, devoted, heartbreaking, experimental, resilient, open, hidden. But it’s also about the lesbian experience and the hate, judgment, gossip, and disapproval that comes with it. Beware, a lot of these stories feel inconclusive. I listened to the audiobook and it was hard at first to tell where a story ended and another one began. When switching to reading mode, some stories have really long paragraphs, not sure if this is a formatting glitch, but it’s hard to know where to take a break when there are long paragraphs like that. All in all, it was ok. I found myself relating to some parts of these stories. And some parts were very poetic and beautiful.

Beautiful, raw, mesmerizing collection of short stories
Amora: Stories is a striking collection focusing on lesbian relationships. Polesso has a fantastically ethereal way of writing that leaves you tangled up in the character's thoughts and engrossed in her story. The tales are short (and there are some lovely, firey, super-short flash fiction pieces at the end), so this collection makes for a great quick read and left me curious about Polesso's other works.

Wonderful messy lesbian stories
This is a short story collection featuring messy, toxic, and incredibly realistic queer women. Polesso truly knows how to make characters feel real and with this collection she captures the breadth and diversity in our community. The stories all flow well together; it's well balanced. It's divided into two parts "Big and Juicy" for longer short stories and "Short and Tart" for more flash fiction style. I do think "Big and Juicy" was stronger. My favorite stories were "Grandma, Are You a Lesbian?", "Marilia Wakes Up", "Amora", "Wasskerkur, Or a Couple Reasons Not to Hate Rainy Days", and "Profanation".

Honest. Subtle. Real.
I like the short story format. Most of them I could fall in step with and understand “that” love story.. saying to myself “I’ve been there.” (Love being a loose concept-some lust, some 1st times, some infatuations).

Various Tales of Love and Lust
The main thing that makes this interesting is that the stories are short but intriguing. They transcend age, going from highschool and past the age of retirement. Love is timeless and enthralling.

What A Load Of Dreary Bollo
This book must surely be a candidate, if not hot favourite, for the bore of the century. Meaningless, dreary, pretentious drivel.
