Needs some help to be considered reliable.
When it works, it works great. However the unit will provide flashing indication that is faster than a door open flash for no apparent reason. Opening and closing the doors appears to clear the issue, however it makes in my mind the unit less reliable. Installation was very easy.

Works as it should!
Was a bit concern when some reviews gave it a low rating citing non-functioning or false alarms from the unit over time. But nothing of that sort for me after a few months. I could only deduce that all those non-functioning or false alarms were due to two possibilities - (a) poorly installed sensor unit when the plastic plunger was not fully retracted or at least three-quarter retracted into the sensor unit when the garage door closes; and (b) Unit was not properly reset when you unplug the power adapter to receiver unit after you want to stop the irritating beeping noise when you want the garage door to remain open for a long time for some reason (you will have to re-power the receiver unit if unplugged, and then re-open and re-close the garage door to reset the sensor to sync with the receiver to get the proper green light remaining on assuming you have installed the sensor correctly). Now I have a great way to know whether the garage door is open or not even with the garage entry door to house remains closed. Certainly this has given me a great sense of security and peace of mind against any accidental triggering of the garage door remote in the handbag.

Not really up to it
Bought this and it worked OK eventually although had a lot of hassle finding a location that worked consistently. Bought a second transmitter (for second garage door) which despite being no more than 3 metres further away has failed to work no matter what I did. Tried all positions, new batteries etc.Works if I hold it and close sensor but when on garage door its simply stops sending. Extremely frustrating. Distance to my garage from the receiver is 15 metres - straight line of sight to the receiver.Great idea - annoyed it doesn't work. Can't recommend. Contacted Skylink customer service - suggested I renew batteries!

Skylink GM-318 Household Alert Garage Door Monitor Set
This is neat little product especially if you live miles away from the garage door (not literally) and are a paranoid sleeper constantly dreaming of the garage door going up in the middle of the night.Firstly it just does not work 100 feet, you would be lucky to get 20-25 feet and the sensing antenna is highly directional. In the last 10 years we have gone through a send set because the receiver and transmitter get weaker with age. However I use all 4 zones for the garage doors, perimeter moton sensor and sump pump pit overflow and have recently started to notice that the sensor tends to give false signals very frequently.Mounting the receiver closer to the tranmitters seems to help but not 100% and even with garage door sensors closed, they sometimes flash the leds though the beeps are silent.I found initially that to be a battery issue but changing to fresh batteries do not seem to work always. Also if the transmitter sensor is manually operated by hand seems to shut off the false alarm, but a lot of times with the motion of the garage doos closing the sensor remains on indicating open door.Unfortunately there are not similar 4 zone or higher models that operate on the same principal, so I am kind of grandfathering this technology as it has given us great service and would put the reliability factor to 80%.You do however need a flat surface to mount the transmitter sensors and they do not mount on stepped garage door designs unless you raise the surface to allow flush mounting.Overall a very nice product and wouldl like to see an improvement in this technology from the manufacturer in future designs. My rating is 3.5 of 5

Comparison with Chamberlain CLDM1
I got Chamberlain first and it installed in 5 minutes. The transmitter attaches easily to door with provided double stick velcro. The receiver (with green/red LED indicators) has to be plugged in, which does limit the choices for mounting. In one month of usage I had to reset it once because it was showing the garage door open when it was closed. As another reviewer noted, simply unplugging the receiver and plugging it back in fixed the problem. If the door is closed a green LED shines, if open a red LED blinks. Odd that the red LED is dimmer than the green LED.I thought it would be nice if it would also beep when the garage door is left open so I tried the Skylink GM-318. I got the Skylink today and it installed easily. I did have to fiddle with tiny dip switches on the transmitter and receiver, but it was pretty easy with the supplied tool. I think the receiver works from a bit farther away than the Chamberlain.I was disappointed with the beep feature because it starts beeping constantly as soon as the door is opened. I don't think my family will appreciate the beep when I leave for work early in the morning. If Skylink (or Chamberlain) reads this, it would be really nice if the beep could be configured to start immediately, or to start beeping after the door has been open for 5 minutes. Beeping once per minute would be enough, instead of constant beep. The beep volume can be set to off, low, or high with a switch. It also has a mute feature which you can press if you know the garage door will be open for a while. When the garage door is closed, it automatically turns off the mute and goes back to normal operation. The Skylink uses a different kind of sensor than the Chamberlain that is mounted at the bottom of the door with two sided sticky tape and has a pencil shaped sensor that senses the floor of the garage pressing up on the pencil shaped sensor. The sensors for both units work well and appear to be well designed.Overall both units work well. If the Skylink had a delay on the beep, I'd like it better, but I'll probably turn off the beep to keep from annoying my family and my dog. The Skylink can monitor up to 4 devices with a separate LED light for each, and a different beep pattern for each. Skylink has sensors that can monitor garage doors, motion sensors, water sensors, and other types of sensors.
