Works very well on Windows 11 Home, but is not the device described
What I received is not the Elan based device shown in the listing and looks a bit bulkier, note the shoulders in the picture, doesn't foul the adjacent port on my laptop but might on othersComes with no installation instructions, but on Windows 11 home the driver loaded automatically and can be seen in device manager, it is ChipSailing device not an ElanTo get it to work I had to open Windows Hello which lets you scan 1 or more fingerprints. Once done I could sign out and sign back in using the device an a brief tap with my finger, if I use an unscanned finger windows hello asks for a different finger. No problems with cold boots seems very reliableEarly on I a few problems with recognition but found that it works better if I tap my finger rather than swiping. I rescanned my fingers that way and it is working perfectly now.Well pleased with little device and would recommend it.

Lack of drivers makes this useless
I don't often feel the need to say "don't buy this", but in this case, don't buy this. All you receive is a box containing the USB device, no instructions, and it certainly isn't plug and play. You plug the device into a USB port and a windows alert says it is installing the device, and then says okay. So far so good. But when you try to configure it in Windows 10, it says no fingerprint scanner is installed. So dig down a bit further and you find you have apparently, an Elan Fingerprint Scanner, (not KamKorda) but no drivers installed. Try using device manager to install the drivers and Windows cannot find the driver for it, so you have to try to manually find a driver and try to install it, without knowing which driver file you need or where to get it from or what you can trust to be virus and spyware free, which is a seriously bad problem for a product supposed to improve device security. I couldn't find any drivers on the Kamkorda website, and I tried various driver files from Softpedia, supposedly for Elan, but none of those worked.I was trying to install this on a fairly standard HP desktop with a fully up-to-date copy of Windows, so if this product was genuinely Windows 10 compatible it should simply have worked. It didn't. I am well versed in installing drivers for all manner of devices and have used just about every version of Windows ever published, but even so, getting this device to work was beyond me. This is really, really poor. A fingerprint scanner should be as generic as a keyboard or a mouse or a bluetooth dongle. This one isn't. The listing here says "Installs automatically" and "No driver required" but that is clearly not the case.

It works well but accurate finger placement needed

Awkward and Inconsistent
There's a good chance you'll have to use your PIN or password anyway, as it fails to recognise fingerprints more often than not. Technically, it can work, it just usually doesn't.Setting up was difficult, it took four attempts. There's no autorun facility on the device to launch settings for you, which is unnecessarily inconvenient, and the device doesn't seem to retain an accurate read of your fingerprint once set up - I've set up many other things to read fingerprint, as we all have, and they work fine. This, does not - 4/5 times it fails to recognise my fingerprint.Feels cheap, behaves cheaply - you get what you paid for, I suppose. The USB sticks out slightly, it's just a little too long for the port.Would recommend considering other products, even at a higher price.

It doesn't get much simpler or efficient than this!
I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this... I have used biometric scans to gain quick and simplified access to phones, Macbooks and laptops for years but had not ever considered doing it with my desktop. I saw this product and thought I would give it a try. I must admit to being absolutely delighted with the outcome of this little 'Test'. It works perfectly!! Even more than that - I have it connected to my KVM switch which I use to quickly and easily access laptop and desktop through the same monitor/keyboard and mouse. I plugged it into a hub on my desk connected to a common port on the KVM switch and voila! Access to either machine, seemlessly and within fractions of a second! I think this is a rally top piece of kit and so simple :-) I marked down 1 star on 'Easy to Install' as the driver load was not quite perfect and needed a couple of minutes to resolve, but this is me being picky. Overall, this thing works like a dream!

A little fiddling needed.
A bit of a pain to get it to play ball if some one is not familiar or confident looking for drivers. As the device is NOT PnP, and do not come with instructions to install or get the drivers.Read below for the way I done it. :)My setup is:Win11 version 22H2Laptop: ROG ASUS M16, 12th Gen Intel i9, nVidia RTX 3070 Ti LaptopGo to your settings, (windows update)Check for updates, (nothing regarding the fingerprint device will show),Click advanced options, half way down click "optional updates" the driver should be there.

Drivers?
Purchased this item to aid a quick secure login. I had about 1.5hrs getting the thing to work on Windows 11 Hello and it did not in my mind 1= work very well and 2= was a hassle to install (the amount of drivers available is wide and left me with the felling is it secure?. "Worst of all on doing a main Win11 update it stopped working totally". I did try to re-install but it did not play ball !! a total waste of money and is now used as a door wedge. I advise you Don't Purchase pay a bit more and get a product that will work.

Doesn't Work Under Linux
It seems like the chip has changed compared to previous reviewers. I bought this based on a previous review which reported this as a Elan Tech chip. The version I received is a ChipSailing chip that isn't supported by fprintd on Linux. The ID of the version I received is: 2541:9711 (Chipsailing CS9711Fingprint)I didn't test it under Windows as that wasn't my use case so can't honestly comment on how good it is.
