No. It has an automatic movement with a clear case back. You could handwind to get it going, but no need once it’s on the wrist. As an aside, this is an awesome watch. Goes well with a suit or a tshirt/jeans. Definitely punches above its price point.

Yes, the watch is made in Japan. If you look closely on the back, "Made in Japan" is printed on the crystal. Also, I think that the majority of Seiko 5 watches at that price point are all made in Japan.

Does it have a sapphire crystal? Or does it have the less scratch resistant mineral crystal?

Hardlex, which is seikos version of a mineral crystal, maybe better than mineral, but not sapphire
