Great Hand Mixer with Infinite Speeds
My beloved 14 year old, 6-speed KitchenAid hand mixer finally mixed itself to death. My old mixer was digital, so I looked at the 7 and 9 speed KitchenAid hand mixers, but was distressed to see that some may be made in China. I hesitated buying this mixer, because it wasn't digital but, this one is MADE IN THE USA, which is very important to me. I decided to give it a try. Besides the slide speed control, the only difference between my old mixer and this one are the beaters; the new beaters are longer and a bit larger. The mixer still has a .6 amp motor, the same as the old mixer. My old mixer was powerful enough to mix cookie dough, so I'm assuming this one is too. Since I have a KitchenAid stand mixer, and a Zojurishi bread machine, this hand mixer won't be seeing much in the way of stiff dough. In comparison, this hand mixer incorporates ingredients much faster than the old mixer. It whips cream much faster. I made mashed potatoes the other night, and the potatoes were actually airy and fluffy, which has never happened before. I'm giving credit to the new design of the beaters. The most surprising is, that I like the sliding speed control more than the digital touch control. I can very gradually slide the control toward maximum, which actually gives me infinite speed control. Many times I'd wished my old 6 speed hand mixer had a speed that was 1/2 way between speeds; with this mixer, I have that type of control. If you want true control over the speed of your mixer, this is the mixer for you. BTW, the beaters from my 14 year old KitchenAid hand mixer, fit this mixer, so I have a spare set of beaters!

turbo-powered beaters?
I have ordered and seen both the turbo-powered and non-turbo-powered beaters, from the 3-speed model and the 5-speed model. The only difference is that the turbo powered beaters are straighter from shaft to end, and the non-turbo beaters are slightly curved. The marketing and engineering departments must have gotten together to devise this scheme, which is quite silly. The turbo beaters are "faster" because they are not as curved. Both fit into all of the Kitchen Aid models and are difficult to tell apart without purchasing both. That's all the turbo is about. Somehow they turn the mixture more quickly than non-turbo beaters. But they don't turn any faster. Yes, it quite ridiculous.I guess we'll have to forgive Kitchen Aid for confusing consumers like this. But they still make the best product. I have tested Sunbeam and Black and Decker and compared with Kitchen Aid, Kitchen Aid is quieter, slower on first speed. In fact, Kitchen Aid is so much quieter you would think that they have some kind of patent on making a quiet motor for hand mixers. Kitchen Aid doesn't make drills like Black and Decker; their mixer sounds like it was designed to be used in the garage. The Sunbeam - cheaper, with more attachments - runs at a much higher speed on low than Kitchen Aid and is also noisier. You will pay more for Kitchen Aid for this reason. They don't include as many attachments for the same price, because their product is simply better - turbo or not.

Great so far!
Bought this after looking at various reviews. Have only used it once so far, to blend batter for pumpkin quick bread. Did the job just fine, seemed plenty fast to me, and I had no problem using it in my steel mixing bowl. Haven't tried the dough hooks or blender stick thingie yet; I expect the blender stick thingie (can't remember what they call it, obviously) to work just fine on smoothies, etc., but I'm not sure this thing has enough power to knead bread dough - if I try that, I'll come back to let you know. Also I got all the right parts in the box; I see some people say they didn't. I'm considering adding the balloon whisk, which is supposed to add more volume to things like egg whites than you can get using a hand whisk because of the added speed.Gave it four stars only because I haven't really put it through its paces yet, having used it only once, but I'm quite satisfied with what I see and how it works so far.

Great Mixer
I bought this mixer about 4 days ago and made bread with it as soon as I got it. It's very sturdy, the 5 speeds are more than adequate for basic bread, cake, or cookie baking. The dough hooks come with it as well as shake mixer.I haven't had to use the higher speeds yet, can't imagine I would. I was looking for a mixer to make baking a little easier and quicker because I've been hand mixing everything for years, so to have a mixer is an extreme luxury for me. I guess if you have been using mixers for years maybe you might find fault with this one, but I honestly don't think so.The negative reviews confuse me, but I guess maybe each mixer is not made the same?I make bread twice a week, and bake other things almost everyday. I am using this mixer constantly since I bought it. No problems yet and don't expect any. I bought it even with the negative reviews because I know Kitchen Aid has a good reputation, plus it was a great price.

Great mixer. Quiet, with a slow slow, and a fast fast. Easy to use.
I originally bought this for my grandma for Christmas. Both of us being heavy bakers (and I being her grandson), I wanted to get her a mixer that would do its job in the kitchen, and quietly. After my grandma's original 40 year old General Electric mixer died a year ago, she has purchased and returned three mixers. I don't remember them all, but I know one was a Hamilton Beach, and one was a Black and Decker. Some of the problems she had with these were that they were either too fast (flinging dry ingredients everywhere, even on the lowest setting), or too loud (I shouldn't have to strain to have a conversation in the kitchen over a mixer). After getting this mixer, all of those problems have been solved. It is quiet, has appropriate speeds (slow and fast), and is easy to operate. I could not ask for a better mixer, and I hope it also will last us another 40 years.

Love it!
I've had this mixer for about a month now, and have used it about a dozen times..cookies, cakes, pizza dough, mashed potatoes..the works. It's an excellent mixer! The beaters are easy to clean, it's much quieter than you'd expect, and I LOVE the dough hooks. I won't be lusting for a stand mixer for a while! I'd highly recommend it as an alternative to one.

Dream Machine
I love this machine. It is quiet, but still very powerful. The extra attachments make it a very versatile unit. I don't have to get out my big unit for every job now.
