Very very nice Rain Head, Typical Kohler Quality
As of this writing 14 of 16 reviews here are Vine reviews. I bought mine, paid full price. Here's what I'd add: This is not a screw-on rain head. Folks that are gigging stars for that don't get it. If you're shopping for this model rain head you prob already know that this is one component of a major shower reno. The price is steep, but that is because this is a complex Kohler fixture. It is essentially four of their water tiles, mounted in a single appx 9x9" carrier. The brass work and design is impressive. This kind of engineering isn't cheap. If you're doing a Kohler water tile shower, this should be on your list. The rain is soft, adjustable, and reasonably high volume for the amount of water consumption. This CAN be a DIY project, (I did it) but you better be comfortable with framing, tile work, copper soldering, and plumbing. But the result is awesome. Note that you WILL need some copper / brass fittings that prob aren't available at your local Orange or Blue big box store. Others have said this manifold should be in the box. It isn't included because there are multiple ways to plumb this head, either a gang of 4, gangs of two, or individual. But that is $20-40 of additional stuff that you'll need to get this installed (including a 4-way ½" brass union). But it's not difficult at all to plumb this up if you know what you're doing.

Great Product, Should include key parts
The product itself is excellent, and would get five stars, but not included was an inexpensive brass fitting that had to be special-ordered and took two weeks to get. Our entire project was delayed two weeks.

Half the price of the K-8030-CP
This is the replacement for the K-8030-CP, it is half the price of the old K-8030. Do not buy the old kit, it is NLA. But this one .

Hmm. 5 Stars for Kohler Quality, 2 Stars for Ease of Use
I've given this Kohler overhead "rain" shower-head 5 stars for its quality. However, I'd only give the company 2 stars for what they're sending out on an expensive, "marked down to" $600 product! There's no doubt, the product is high quality, in both the construction and the finishing: highly polished chrome, four independent (and heavy) brass and other metal fittings, which can be aimed independently so you get the water distribution you want. However, this shower-head must be built in. That is, it does not come in a cabinet (or box) you can mount over your shower. The intent is apparently that you have a custom hole cut into your ceiling, you attach custom and complicated plumbing, and you build it in so what you see in the ceiling above your shower is what is shown in the product photo. Now, our bathroom ceilings are at 10 feet -- so this is just not going to work for us as a built-in shower-head. The main challenge with this is that you have to buy somewhere (and the come-with instructions don't list any such thing), or you or your plumber make from scratch, a fairly sophisticated piece of plumbing. Generally, this will be a loop of brass (or perhaps heat-capable PVC) half-inch pipe, with four nozzles precisely set to attach to each of the four independent shower-heads that make up the unit. There is a metal template included, to help you or your plumber make up this device. However, I believe for this price, the company could have included this piece of plumbing, with one connector at the end, so you could hook it to an existing shower mixed water (hot and cold) supply. It this way, it could be installed with a standard shower-head half-inch coupling. That would have made it much more practical, and a lot easier to actually use. We really admire this shower-head -- we already have a square "rain" head in our master bathroom. It is a much less expensive, but far easier to install, device, with a standard coupling that simply screwed on with a little teflon tape, to the existing shower plumbing. That means we're already fans of the concept. However, it is going to take a lot of imagination, and money, to be able to install this and use it in our existing shower. For instance, while I'm good with tools and am a DIY-er, we'd have to construct the custom plumbing required. Then, I'm going to have to make some sort of water-resistant cabinet to enclose the whole thing, and figure out how to hang it over our shower. To summarize: we think Kohler should supply the special plumbing fixture required with this expensive unit. At the very least, it should be available at an additional price for a customer. In addition, an optional plastic or metal cabinet to contain the whole fixture so it could be hung in settings where building it in is not possible, would have been a better idea. Again -- 5 stars for Kohler quality. 2 stars for ease of use.

A shower head/tile that is stunning but an overly complicated install process.
Simply a stunning shower head with an overly complicated install process. I chose this unit as it was a perfect looking fit for the new shower that I've been working on to go into the old location in my main bathroom. I got this and was super excited to pull it out and start checking it out as to how it's going to get installed. Then I realized that they made it complicated to no end to install this. What you get: Beautiful chrome tile bezel for the heads. 4 rain heads that nest into the bezel. A mounting plate for the tile. What you don't get...: A simplified way to just hook up each head and then tie that into your plumbing. Instead you have to sit their for what seemed like 4 hours cutting and test fitting bits of copper pipe until I could finally get everything in the right place plus a couple extra trips back to the local hardware store to get some elbows and other stuff that I didn't have enough of. I mean this could have been a much simpler process had they included a simple bit of copper pipe that was already sized to meet this shower head system and everything would just screw in and be done. Instead, for the extremely large price tag, all you get is a chrome tiles, some shower heads and a mounting bracket to hold the stuff. Everything else is up to you. While I love to look of this shower head and find it simply stunning I'm also rather perturbed that I had to create a part that should have been included from the start. I wanted to give it a lower rating but now that it's setup and installed it looks great. Not that it didn't take a excruciating amount of work to get it in there. I've done a lot of plumbing over the years but this is by far the most complicated job I've ever done to date. What makes it worse is that it was for myself, at least if I was doing this for someone else I would have been able to at least feel vindicated in the ability to raise the installation prices through the roof for the sheer frustration of this unit. It looks awesome at the end of the day but the install process is a headache I hope to ever experience again. I will be looking for a much simpler unit for the other 2 bathrooms that need to be done in this house.

pricey but a great looking rain shower when installed correctly.
As a fan of the beauty of Kohler fixtures, especially the watertile series that includes this rainshower, high mount showerheads and body sprays has always been on my wish list for a modern looking custom tile shower. The watertile series uses a square faced recessed head that provide continuous pinpoint sprays that massage and clean. This 4 tile rainshower is designed to be recessed in to a shower ceiling. This can be surroundes by ¾” drywall ceiling or more substantial waterproofed and tiled or slabbed shower or steam room ceilings. Installing this isn't for a weekend DIY'er who has never plumbed and built a custom shower. This head requires precision copper/brass soldered plumbing and exact mounting of the source pipes, or it will not seat correctly. You will have to open the ceiling of an existing rainshower to redo the plumbing and mounting for the recessed head or the water wall and the ceiling to install a diverter and source plumbing for the head. A few key things to keep in mind that I learned from installation: 1. Accurately estimate the thickness of your ceiling as part of your mounting depth. The rough in guide is specific for a reason… be exact and think about any cement board, thinset, and tile thickness in advance. It’s not the end of the world if you miss the correct depth, it can be fixed by a longer 1/2” NPT nipple, but the pressure loop and 4 ½”NPT female to ½” NPT nipple pipe must be level and secured. http://www.us.kohler.com/webassets/kpna/catalog/pdf/en/1207715_4.pdf 2. The included solder template is required. Building the single pressure balancing loop is almost impossible without it. If the Nipples are even a hair off, the head wont mount correctly. 3. This fixture is pushing 2.4 GPM, you will either have to use it as a primary head, or connected to a diverter/transfer or volume control valve. If you are going with all traditional manual valve controls, I would heartily recommend an inline volume control valve. This will allow you to adjust the flow of water to the rainshower. From completely off to downpour. 4. For a pure modern high tech approach, using a digital thermostatic valve manifold will allow flow control all through a single interface. 5. Note that this fixture is NOT water or vaportite. Even in an open top shower, you will get steam/moisture behind the fixture. The area surrounding the head opening will let vapors pass – eventually leading to mold in your walls. For these spaces, I’d recommend Redgard Waterproofing. Pros: • Amazing rain feeling, beautiful design. • Matches well with existing Kohler fixtures and features. • Can be used with both Digital Thermostatic Valves or pressure balancing valves. Cons: • Price – Kohler is expensive, but price on this showerhead makes you check for sanity. • With the significant price, Kohler should be providing a factory built pressure balancing loop as a part of the package
