Bought this to balance a heavy astrophotography rig. The rail is sturdy and has nice features. My only suggestion for improvement is that it would be nice if the rail had mounting plates on both sides so you can mount your main camera on top and a guide scope or laser pointer device on the bottom. As it is, standard 1/4-20 camera bolts aren't long enough to reach all the way through and thread into a device mounted on the underside.

It's a stupid piece of equipment

I bought this to enable me to attach and old camera bracket grip made by Stitz and also to conveniently attach to a tripod when required. This combination also allows off-camera flash. I used to wrap the camera strap round my hand but now having the bracket grip mostly makes carrying the camera a lot easier.

great quality and great value

Five star for the plate itself, 2 star for the screws it came with. The only one screw with a handle that it came with is a 3/8" threading, which means it has a limited use on Photography gears, videographers may appreciate. The 1/4" screws it came with all do not have the handle for quick applications, and they fall out of the rails easily when not mounted. Also would be nice if it had rubber padding where the cut out is that way it'd prevent it from slipping.
