more true-to-life than a lot of people would admit
I laughed all the way through this movie because I got the joke. I dated a "former" gymnast from Houston (think of that very famous gym and coach - yep, she trained under him) in college (at least with the women, most are pretty much done by 18) and she acted exactly like Hope: mean, spoiled, demanding, and cruel for the fun of it. But she was fun and interesting in her own way.Its a funny movie for sure, but if you are easily put off by gratuitous sex scenes (there is one) or really mean spirited characters, there are probably better movie selections out there. This is not for kids, btw.PS: this is probably what "I, Tonya" should have been. However if they had made Hope an ice skater, that would have been a bit too on the nose : )

A Jersey Who's Actually Funny! "The Bronze" Review
From what I saw in the trailers, my sort of tagline to family and friends about this movie was that the main character was a "human female version of Bender" (from Futurama); her name: Hope Ann Greggory - Hope drinks, she's self-centered, she's somewhat sexualized, and she swears like a sailor. These traits put her at odds with her newfound "apprentice", a bubbly, enthusiastic wannabe of Hope. For people looking for a synopsis, allow me to summarize this movie as best I can: An ex-athlete named Hope Ann Greggory was injured in a horrific foot injury/accident in an event in the Olympics, but despite the crippling injury she was adamant about finishing her event. She didn't win the gold medal; only the bronze (thus the title), but her determination in the face of disaster made her a local hero in her hometown. She's been riding the glory train for a long time, but a new athlete appears that could threaten Hope's status and bring her down a tier, so to speak, so Hope schemes to rig her competition for failure so as to stay the alpha in town and soak up everybody's attention."The Bronze" was really funny, despite what critics say. I guess they were members of the F.A.P, the Federation of Annoying Parents (there's a point when Hope just slings slang on a stage in a mall, with tons of little kids present), or they just didn't understand how Hope's profane nature made her who she is. It gave me great laughs - Hope's a running riot. Kind of like the fictional Neil Patrick Harris persona from Harold & Kumar.I do want to stress one last time that Hope is really vulgar, and can teach you the ABC's of cursing with sexual innuendos added in, but she gets so creative in the movie that it becomes impossible not to laugh at some of the stuff she says and does. So if you're some sort of weirdo who moans in agony upon hearing any "naughty" words, steer clear from "The Bronze"; if you're actually normal and have some sort of resistance, that shouldn't cause you any harm.

Hilariously Horrible Hope
Maybe "The Bronze" is one of those movies you might want to wait to see on a subscription-based video streaming service rather than blind-buy. (Or else wait for a nice markdown.)The movie features Hope Ann Gregory (Melissa Rauch), who was an athlete who injured herself while earning a bronze medal. However, she's not the nicest person in years since, riding on her stardom in her little hometown for free food and other handouts, and also steals money from mail from her father's (Gary Cole) mail truck. The pair is running out of money, but when Hope hears she can mentor a young athlete named Maggie for an inheritance of $500,000, she tries to go in with the minimum effort, nearly wrecking Maggie. However, when her rival Lance Tucker (Sebastian Stan) discovers what has happened, he almost prevents Hope's chances of getting the money. Hope now has to get her act together to get Maggie ready to compete or it's all or nothing. The movie could best be described as a black comedy, and perhaps even cynical. (SPOILER!) Hope doesn't become a better person throughout the movie. The more sensitive viewers will find her disgustingly foul-mouthed and a drug user. That said, it's not hard to see this movie becoming a cult comedy classic in years to come. There's certainly some laughs to be had, including a ridiculously gymnastic sex scene and a hilarious rap song featuring Hope and Lance during the end credits. If you were debating whether to purchase this on Blu-Ray or digital HD (the Blu-Ray doesn't contain a digital copy code), the Blu-Ray only offers about seven minutes of deleted scenes (mainly Hope just being even more horrible) and a trailer in the way of bonus features. No audio commentary, no "making of," no Instagram videos of Sebastian Stan shaking his groove thing in character as Lance. (... Okay, now you know why I checked this movie out.)I'd recommend waiting for a nice discount to buy "The Bronze" myself, and if you can rent it or stream it before purchasing, go ahead and do that to determine if you'd actually want it.

Bronze gets the Gold in my book!!
Great movie starring Melissa Rauch (Big Bang Theory) like you've never HEARD her before!! She's a has-been living on a vague celebrity past (familiar??) and has to train an up-coming star who is as good, if not better than she is. She does learn a lot from the experience, but it doesn't stop her swearing for a moment!! IF YOU ARE PRUDISH, BEWARE! This movie contains a little masturbation, some very comical gymnastic sex and swearing all the way through! If this is likely to offend, stick with Disney!! For those NOT easily offended by life, enjoy! Melissa is fantastic!! Even the end credits feature a rap from Melissa which you will find under Melissa Rauch F-That on YouTube!!
