Am confused by how the word "cordless" is used. The description says there's a cord inside the base. I assume it's a retractable cord??

For added convenience the kettle can be removed completely from the detachable base, after boiling, for cord free use. "A 30-inch cord that wraps neatly into the detachable base for easy storage." Kettle is "cordless" or cord free. Detachable base has a 30" cord and is not retractable.

the bottom of the box says it's made in "PRC"
