Great for keeping out larger birds like bluejays and starlings
Great design for cold climates! Top protects from snow and bottom has no tray to have snow build up on. Keeps out larger birds that empty the feeders and hog all the food. The chickadees took to this on day 1 and seem to know it's for them. They have no problem getting in and out. It's also easy to fill. If you're looking to discourage red squirrels I should note that a small red squirrel got in it the first week. Personally I don't mind sharing with them as long as they don't chew the feeder up. This feeder has metal seed ports and posts so there was no way he could do that! I am pretty sure that gray squirrels would not be able to squeeze in. Bottom line... this will be a great feeder! An update.. This feeder is really the best I've found. A note to the makers if they read this. My wish is that you would make one just like this but longer... with 2 more perches and more room for seed. Chickadees are loving it but empty it fast!

Keeps big birds out!
Effective product at keeping the bully blue jays out of the feeder while allowing the titmouse and finches! It is sturdy and looks great in the yard

Squirrels don’t bother it.
I have used another feeder similar to this for years. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LNSWHY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1I found that feeder difficult to clean, even with a power sprayer. Not impossible but difficult. I purchased this one based on reviews about ease of cleaning. It is much easier. The only downside to it is this: it is not as sturdy as the other similar feeder I have used to which I included the link. Also, the small washers designed to keep the squirrels out are a bit of a hassle. The feeder on the site pictured clips which might have been easier to use. Don’t know.Still gave it five stars. Will see how it holds up in the weather.

Well made and easy to fill and clean
I'm VERY happy with this feeder. Took the birds a week or so, and holding off on seed in other feeders, before they started using this one. But its been attracting lots of sparrows and finches. And it keeps the jays and doves out.I find it easy to maintain, fill, and keep clean. I pull it in out of the rain, and set it on the patio and the birds will still come to it! Love this feeder...

Keeps the pigeons out!
It took a couple of days for the small birds to figure it out, but once they did, they love it. And, so far, no pigeons or squirrels.

Going on 5 years...
I received this feeder today. I tried everyone I thought would work. The diameter is the answer. Those grackles can reach into most caged feeders. This one I found to be 11 inches and it worked. I spent a lot of the day dancing and singing while watching my daily grackles trying to reach the feed ports. Nope, can't be done. My husband said I was cruel, but he does not clean up the poop and mess left behind when this mob of pigs hits my little bird sanctuary. They were clearing out two large feeders and a few suet cakes a day. My little guys were waiting for the left overs, when there were any and even the bird baths were full of nasty nasty stuff. I am getting another one and one another company claims works. The feeder tube is small but I have no problem filling them for the little guys. The little ones were leery today but they will be fine. Please remember those 9 and 10 inch cages are not far away enough for the grackles, the can stretch that neck and clean you out. Happy Dance for me today. Again the feeder tube is very small and the feeder is very light weight. I will return in a few weeks and see how it holds up.Hello, going on 5 years and this feeder is a tough little guy. Grackles, starlings, all the nasty bully birds cant stretch neck to access food. Squirrels have left teeth marks trying to pry the lid off and.....lid still there! Showing sign of wear, all year feeder and its a winner for me. Hurricane came thru one night, took out giant trees, but this guy was still on his Sheppard hook. It is lighter in weight then my Squirrel Busters, but it is less expensive and gives the same protection to my Little Buddies. My birds are my pets and only get the best, this ranks up there, you wont be disappointed. Thank you so much. Dorothy

Little birds love it. Big birds hate it!
I bought this caged feeder to keep out the big bully birds that have been harassing the smaller birds and emptying my feeders in less than a day and it works great for that. ( I didn't buy this to keep the squirrels out as I have installed a cone baffle on the pole that has proven 100% effective against squirrels that used to shimmy up the metal pole! ). I have owned this caged feeder for three very wet winter months and the seeds have always remained dry, which surprised me. The little birds have no problems getting inside the cage and the big birds are kept out which is saving me a lot of (now) expensive bird seed! The feeder appears to be well constructed and painted so I didn't feel a need to modify it or paint it like I have had to do with some cheaper feeders. I also like how this feeder disassembles for cleaning. Even though this bird feeder is expensive, I am glad I bought it.

Feeding holes are way to low
The feeding holes where the birds get the food are WAY too low, they are almost at the same height as the perch the birds stand on. Chickadees seem to be able to adapt, but numerous other birds that are small but not as tiny as a chickadee (e.g. purple finch) are having a very hard time trying to sit sideways on the perch and bend over far enough to get food without coming off the perch. The feeding hole should have been higher like on a normal feeder so when a bird sits on the perch the feeding hold is around their normal height, just slightly lower.Tube barely holds any food, don't have to replace it very often though since the birds struggle to get anything out.The feeding holes go from one side to the other, so the seed is blocked by this tube going from one feeding hole to the other inside the main feeder, so the seed has to kind of fall "around" the tube and land at the bottom. This means there are many times that a hole will not have any seed because more hasn't been able to fall down around the horizontal tube that goes through the structure.Small birds seem to be able to get in, the smaller the better. But again, they struggle to turn themselves in a way to get food out that low.Poor design.

Best feeder for small birds!
Amazing feeder! I was having problems with pigeons and starlings. I tried many different feeders without success. This is the only one that worked. Junco and chickadees love it! There was a big storm this week and the seeds remained dry. The top stays closed with the small metallic discs. Very happy.

Works as advertised!
Within an hour of putting this up in our yard we had various species of small birds using it. They easily flew in and out of the cage to easily access the feed. A number of larger grackles tried their luck but could not access the seed inside. Great for small birds! Works well. The metal cage construction should last for years.

The only defense against black birds that has worked
It's a pricey thing, but they've tried but can't reach the tube inside the cage. Anything smaller than a cardinal has successfully made use of it. Not the largest container but I don't have to fill it every day now.
