Best Carafe ever!
We have owned a previous edition of this Thermal Carafe for probably close to 20 years or more until it finally failed. We loved it so much that we wanted to replace it with the same or similar product. This carafe came close and the only difference is that the engineering has improved and is even better than our old one. What has improved? the lid in the old carafe needed to be partially opened in order to pour the coffee which meant heat could escape. With the new carafe there is a button that opens the pouring spout only - a much more elegant solution and less steam can escape keeping the contents of the carafe hot longer. Both my husband and I absolutely love this new design!

Good insulation
Keeps hot water hot. I like how this is glass on inside but of course you would have to be careful

Keeps my tea hot/warm for several hours
On the bright side it does what it is supposed to do - keep hot liquids hot/warm. I can fill it at 6:30am with hot tea (pre-heating the carafe first), and it will still be hot enough to enjoy the tea with milk at 9:30. By noon however it isn't hot enough to warm up the milk I add (perhaps 10-15% of the volume in the cup) and still be an enjoyable temperature. I don't care for the lid design as it seems to be a pain to clean/dry out. Liquid stays in there. Also when pouring the last 1/4-1/2 cup of tea out I have to almost invert the carafe to get it out - this will result in tea leaking out of the lid. Speaking of leaking - as I bought this to carry to work with me I was seriously disappointed the first day when it leaked all over my bag. You MUST keep it vertical to avoid leaks, the lid doesn't really seal.

Coffee lover
I have tried a half dozen different brands over the years and this brand is excellent. I was in a coffee shop in Asheville NC and got a cup of coffee from a larger version of this product. I remarked to the server that the coffee was certainly hot and that he must have just made a fresh pot. He said the coffee was about 4 hours old and said his wife (the owner of the shop) had tested about a half dozen different brands of carafes prior to deciding on Zojirushi. He said she found it the best on the market. He indicated that they frequently take excess coffee from the day home and have it straight from the carafe the next morning and find it hot. I got the product name and went to Amazon to read the reviews on this product prior to purchasing and was therefore aware of the problems identified by the reviewers here. I have now owned the carafe for about a year and use it most days. I usually run hot water into the carafe and let it heat up the container prior to pouring coffee and sealing it. I have kept coffee very hot for over 24 hours. Of course, the secret is to always close the carafe (check the slot to insure it is closed) back immediately after pouring a cup. I also wash the top in a dishwasher after use. This allows water to enter the top (as noted by one reviewer). I turn the top so that the horizontal hole in the side is at the bottom and the water pours out. I shake it a few times and it is good to go. I find the product more than adequate to prevent coffee from tasting stale. I frequently make 10-12 cups of coffee at a time and pour a few cups then put the remainder into a carafe and seal it until further use. I find the coffee hours later as good as a freshly made cup of coffee. I usually drink the carafe of coffee within 4-6 hours. After using several other similar products I find this product superior to those products therefore warranting a 5-star rating. The one disadvantage was the higher price but after a year of use from a value consideration, it is worthwhile.

You won't regret it! Boiled water still hot after 12 hours!
This carafe is great! I struggled with whether to take away a star for difficulty cleaning & water sounding like it was trapped in the lid and in the space between the brushed steel & black plastic bottom, but since it kept my water boiling hot for 12 hours, I just love it! Pros: Looks good Keeps liquids hot for many hours - but make sure that the button is on the "closed" setting. The first day I had left it on the open setting and the coffee did not stay hot for even 4 hours. Then I had tested the carafe by boiling water in my tea kettle and putting the lid on the carafe making sure that the setting was on "closed." I found that after 12 hours the water was still too hot to drink. I then tested it the next morning (roughly 24 hours later) and it was luke warm. I read another review that said it kept liquids hot for 24 hours & that was not my experience. I would call it cold, but definitely not hot. Easy to use and pours nicely with no drips. Cons: I wish the interior were wider to make cleaning easier. You will need a water bottle brush to clean the inside. The first couple of times I washed it water was audibly trapped in the lid (i could hear it when I moved it around) and water droplets were still coming from the space between the brushed stainless & black plastic. It had been drying overnight so the water should have been gone. It was a slight annoyance, but not enough to take away a star.

One carafe does the job, the other does not
April 2009: I am amazed that freshly-made coffee I pour into the carafe at 8:00 one morning is still hot in the evening and is barely tepid at 9:00 a.m. the next day. (Carafe is preheated with hot water.) Sleek design (looks nice on the buffet counter), easy pour, holds eight full 5-oz cups, good price. I'll buy another Zojirushi Premium Thermal Carafe (from amazon.com) just for tea. (Freshly-brewed tea poured into the clean carafe ended up tasting somewhat like stale coffee rather than good strong tea.) This thermal carafe is a good product that, as promised, keeps liquids hot for many hours. Oct. 2009: I did buy a second Zojirushi Premium Thermal Carafe from amazon.com. Unfortunately, although supposedly exactly the same as the first one, it does not work as well. After several hours, the tea is no longer warm, although the carafe is preheated with hot water and the tea itself is very hot when poured in. I have used the newer carafe only twice, and found that each time, I had to discard the tea late in the day or, after a few hours, microwave a mugful from the carafe to have a hot drink.

Nice and simple design, keeps your coffee warm
I use this product every single day. I don’t like my brewed coffee sitting on the hot plate, but my husband wakes up later than I do. I also sometimes want an afternoon cup of coffee. It does a good job of providing a pretty warm cup of coffee throughout the day. I did a little experiment to test the temperature over time and compare “preloading” the carafe or doing nothing. I boiled water to 200 degrees F and let the water sit for about 5 min in the carafe before adding coffee. Here are the resulting temperatures: When added to carafe - 175 degrees 2 hours after adding - 162 degrees 4 hours after adding - 154 degrees 12 hours after adding - 115 degrees 24 hours after adding - 94 degrees Just pouring coffee straight into the carafe resulted in: When added to carafe - 174 After 2 hours - 165 After 4 hours - 156 After 12 hours - 118 degrees As you can see, preloading the carafe had no impact on keeping my coffee hot. So after diligently boiling water every day, I have stopped. I was expecting the carafe to keep the coffee a little hotter, but I’m not sure a different carafe would make a difference. The design is simple and nice.

Seals Leak
Wanted to love this carafe. It works well with our cone coffee maker and keeps coffee hot long enough for our use case (several hours.) However, the seal between the top of the glass interior and the carafe housing leaks (despite multiple attempts to tighten it up.) Coffee gets in between the housing and the vacuum glass interior. I have to take the whole thing apart, clean and dry the very fragile interior and the outer parts, and re-assemble. Also, despite hand washing, the lid gets wash water inside and there is no way to get it out.

Could have been better.
It keeps hot only for like 1.5-2 hours then my tea loses most of the heat. Also, the last portion of the tea, it spills somewhere from the lid instead of the actual spilling hole, which is weird.

Japanese quality
This was exactly what I was looking for, from a reputable Japanese brand. It is a nice product all-round. We have been using it every day for the past couple of weeks, and we are very happy with it. Do try to remember to click the button to seal it after you have poured out some hot water, or the remaining contents will go cold.

Nice pot, but leaks through the lid
I wish I loved this pot, but I'll have to be content with just 'liking' it. Here's why I gave it 4 stars: - Made in Japan - Glass inner (no bad smells) - V60 compatible (although it's comically large on my coffee scales) - Useful open/closed button on the handle - Good benchtop appeal - Good thermal performance The reason I deducted a star is that when you get to the last portion of liquid in the pot, it starts leaking out of the lid rather than pouring through the spout (I do have the lid screwed on properly). It's not very good when this happens as it can make a mess. The leaking does not occur for the first 90% of the pot's liquid (assuming it's full). I can practically hold the jug upside down and nothing leaks through the lid when it's full. It's just when you get to the end 10% or so that it happens.
