Smooth & pretty. Glad it wasn't too small and super expensive like all the opal I saw on Etsy and Ebay, so if I would have expected bigger it would have been asking too much. Normally I am picky about ordering crystals and I look for authentic ones not manufactured out of China. Since opal was man-made anyway and it was a gift for my daughter it didn't matter. She absolutely loved it!
