I easily spotted a mouse
If rating this at 4.5 stars was an option, that is what I would give it. I recently used this on the Appalachian Trail in Shenandoah National Park. I turned the headlamp on about twenty minutes after sunset and kept it on for about three hours, using the "red" filter only, and kept it on the low setting for most of the hike. I prefer to hike with just enough illumination to see where I am heading, see where I am stepping, and locate any wildlife that might be looking in my direction. With the lowest setting using the "red" filter, I easily spotted a mouse, a rabbit, two animals which were either adult bears or bobcats, and also had one very close, and very scary encounter with a mama bear and her two cubs. She was NOT HAPPY that I was in her path and I am just SO VERY THANKFUL that this handy little light maintained a strong charge as this was near the end of my night hike.PRO's- Very light (I had forgotten that it was strapped to my head when I turned it off for the night)- Easy vertical adjustment of light- No third strap that goes over the top of your head (it does not need it & would just get in the way, depending on your hat of choice)- 3 filters & 3 illumination options give it a total of 9 lighting options.- Charges very quickly- Holds a charge for a long time (I did not notice any dimming throughout my hike, but other reviewers state that they have). It may have dimmed a little, but again, I didn't notice it if it did.CON (just one)- The "red" filter is not actually red. It is more of an orange or international orange. This feature is important to me and was one of the major features included in my decision/shopping process. As a retired Navy Sailor, I have spend countless hours on the navigation bridge of several Navy ships and know the importance of using red light maintain night vision and to not give away our position to other ships, since red light is difficult to see at a distance. This orange filter somewhat provided that, but was not nearly as effective as a true red filter would have been. If it had the correct red filter used by mariners and even stage lighting production crews, it would be difficult if not impossible to see through the filter when unlit (this is how you can tell if the filter is correct). This also makes it possible to still be able to read charts and maps (which is also why you won't find red lines or details in navigation charts/maps, because they are meant to be able to read with red light, which would make red ink invisible if it were on the chart.- The flashing option is just flashes (it is not a SOS flash) if that is important to anyone.Summary: I am still very happy with this light and will definitely keep using it. To correct the red filter issue, I will just buy my own red film, cut out a piece and tape it to the white light when needed. I might even buy another one, since the barrel easily detaches from the piece that holds it to the head-strap. This way, I can quickly change them out on the fly, if I should ever find myself without enough charge in the light.Recommendation to ThorFire: Please re-design this to either have a correct red filter, or create a 4th filter option to the unused space on the barrel.

NOT a paid review. Decent light for the price. Not for night hiking. Acceptable for running, not for biking
I paid for this product myself. I need a very lightweight back-country headlamp that recharges via micro-usb like my phone does using a solar setup. The good: Decently bright led. The description lists it at 1.8oz which probably excludes the head strap. 2.5oz is the actual weight. The barrel design is nice that it lets you choose the filter. Most night riders or hikers know that a diffused light is better than the imperfections of a single bulb with dark spots in the pattern. The bad: My first tests were roughly 2 hours on high and 4 hours on low. It's difficult to fully rate this lamp without a meter because it just slowly gets dimmer and dimmer. So those times listed are based on my estimation of remaining fully lit. Anyone planning to log miles at night on the trail obviously can't use this light all night. If you just need a camp light or for emergency light after dusk it should suffice. The So-So: The red filter is not real red. More of a pinkish tint. It doesn't help much with adjusting your eyes back in the dark. The difference between the low beam and high beam is maybe 20% by my eyes. Any light with a single bulb is going to be much harder to use than something with an array of bulbs spread out to diffuse and show terrain better. Finally, the recessed usb port will only accept a thinner plug. The fat blocks won't fit. Not a big deal. Conclusion: The price of this thing makes it a great deal. I could almost make the case for buying two of them and rigging them to a single headband for biking. I'm going to keep looking, but this is not a dud and I will use it for some of my adventures.

The perfect budget friendly rechargeable headlamp?
Other than the headband being a piece of junk that doesn't really work, but's easy to swap out heads on this headlamp.I was looking for a headlamp for backpacking that was, lightweight and rechargeable and this fits the bill. It's lightweight, great for around camp (I really like the diffused setting it spreads light evenly). has three settings High, Med/Low and Strobe. It does not have a true red light that will preserve night vision, but that isn't that big of a deal for me, the red filter is good enough for not disturbing others around camp late at night. It can run while plugged into my power bank after it dies.My group got stuck out in dense bush in Canada and this little guy was bright enough to light our way (while being plugged into the power bank) to get us safely back to camp. The batteries don't last that long and it begins to dim after about an hour or so of use on (it's ok it's rechargeable!). This is not the best headlamp for hiking rough terrain at night. However, This is probably the best budget friendly rechargeable headlamp you can buy thats under $40. 5 stars for price. 4 for quality of headband and and battery life.

Oddly funky yet Purposful and Useful.
While I cannot get the battery out to replace like similar lights, it makes up for with ease of use and flexibility.I was using this tonight to try to find the garage door opener. in my car. You see It was towed for parking in the wrong spot for a concert. I guess their idea of inventorying the contents is to throw everything around and stuff from the back was in the front and front stuff in back. like you took and shook it upside down. I had been looking in the car in the daylight, but still dark spaces so I had to just empty it out. A new remote costs almost as much as a door opener and mine's 25yrs so rather replace the whole thing. I don't usually like headlamps because the cheaper ones are bulky and the expensive ones usually take aaa batts. AAA batteries are the worst bang for your buck as they are more packaging than battery. This light being rechargeable takes that problem away. Its easy to use unlike other lights that have dimming modes etc..I used it for an hour on high and it had been in the trunk. I found my remote. The light never dimmed and i actually forgot it was on my head.. I will get another. Paid Full Price. Thanks for reading...---Rich K.
