No need to assemble. With two batteries in each house cabin, they are ready to uae once unpacked. It is loveliest at night when the lights are on.

What is the height of the buildings?

My dear, the tallest building is 4.33 inches high.

What size button batteries do the houses need when they die/need replacement?

No buttons needed. All the houses are strung together attached to a small battery box for AA batteries. The lights insert into the back of each house so you can change the layout around
