Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP Leather Conditioner Natural Oil Beeswax Formula (8oz)

Oh wow this stuff is the real deal. I’ve used many different leather conditioners/protectors over the years and this one is honestly the best. The price is just right, especially considering a little goes a long way. It works better than anything I’ve used before, and left my leather soft, supple, and protected, but with absolutely no sticky or oily residue. Plus, it smells good and also made my hands feeling kinda soft afterwards. It lasts a LONG time, I applied some on my pocket notebook cover and my one pair of boots over a month ago, and it’s holding up tremendously. Both of these items receive daily, rigorous use and abuse, and they’re both still soft and supple over a month later, no need to reapply yet. The boots still repel water and muck, and when I applied it initially, the leather drank in the conditioning like it just crossed a desert, so I applied a second treatment the next day. I forgot to snap a photo, but they looked like the equivalent of turning a sun-worn, wrinkly 80 year old sailor into a fresh, baby-faced supermodel. Shiny, rejuvenated, ready for action. I recommend the Obernauf Heavy Duty LP for all your leather needs. I’ve been steadily applying it to everything I have. Though I’m not sure about things like couches or car seats, unless given very ample time to dry/absorb, bc I was overzealous and put the notebook cover back on my notebook only about an hour or so after applying the LP, and it left some spotting/moisture marks on the paper it was in contact with. Just a heads up.

I bought this product for my shoes and an old leather chair. It works fantastically at reviving my shoes and bringing the leather back to life. The leather on the chair was a bit more damaged than the shoes, but it did a fine job adding moisture and pliability to the leather. I actually ended up using it on my old baseball glove that has not seen any care in a decade at least, and it feels like it is almost brand new after one application. I will do another in a week or two, and it should be excellent. The look of the product is a light tan, and the look of the leather afterwards is great, very well moisturized, but I cannot speak to the color match because all my leather was already black, but it does warn it may darken leather. It is the consistency and thickness of wax for a beard or hair, and it melts pretty well when applied at body temperature. It is a little difficult to get off your hands, though, so use gloves or just use a cloth, but with my baseball glove, it was easier to just use my bare hands to get in all the crevices. It is not sticky; it just makes your hands waterproof for a day or so. The instructions are simple to follow, and the conditioner is easy to apply. I would recommend it.

Man, I love this stuff for conditioning boots! I find the LP works best if I apply it by hand, since it warms the product and makes it easier to spread. I go heavier on the welts with Goodyear welted boots, simply because the welt, while water resistant, can only resist so much water before your foot gets wet. When rubbed onto the boot, it doesn’t affect the boot’s color. The leather stays true to color, just a shade or two darker from the conditioner. I’ve found the LP protects boot leather from water, chemicals, and paint. Granted, I needed paint thinner to pull the paint off of my boots, but Obenauf’s conditioned the leather like new again. The product is more of a balm texture instead of oil, which I prefer. I usually rub in the excess with a towel, and the stuff left over protects the boot! I would recommend Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP for anyone who needs good protection for their leathers. I’ve used this stuff on jackets too and it works like a charm. If it’s good enough for firefighters, it’s good enough for me.

Daily in commercial construction, I put my leather work boots through some rough treatment. Concrete splattering on leather and stitching, covering them in concrete dust from saw cutting, clay and sand abrading and drying them out, sparks and hot metal shavings spewing over them, kicking stone and gravel scuffing them up... My boots were getting torn apart. Scuffs kept growing, stitching disintegrated, and the leather became ridged and rough. All this is to be expected, but can easily (and cheaply) be prevented. One application of Obenauf’s returned my leather boots to their former glory — no, better! They are more soft, supple and comfortable than ever. They’re protected and ready for more work. I’ve tried plenty of great products on many boots, and this is BY FAR the best. The waterproofing is excellent and effective. My boots came waterproof, but with my regular abuse, this fades away with time. Now I can tromp through puddles with impunity again. This product also withstands chemical abuse. With concrete, mortar and grout being so corrosive, that attribute alone is worth every penny. My FAVORITE part about this product is the lack of residue. Even with how great other products were, they would sit heavily on the surface, grabbing any dirt and dust they touched for days. This product sinks deep into the leather, especially when applied by hand as directed, and I can wear them immediately. Although, I prefer to let them sit on my heated, forced air boot dryer for a couple hours to let it really sink in. After that, you can rub your hand over the leather and feel nothing but suppleness. This product isn’t just for rugged use. I apply this to my casual leather footwear, and the softness and flexibility is spectacular. And don’t forget, waterproof. Because of this conditioning and softening, it makes an excellent partner to break in stiff new leather footwear, while simultaneously waterproofing and protecting it. I would say there is a slight darkening to the original color of the leather, but that’s actually an added bonus for me, as I like a deep, rich leather color. It’s amazing to see my work boots go from white with filth to a glowing, warm, dark brown again. A work boot care routine will certainly make them last, but I don’t always have a lot of time to spare. The time-saving, boot-rescuing routine I’ve figured out includes rinsing with lukewarm water in the tub, going over them with a wet, non-abrasive sponge or cloth, a follow up rinse, thorough drying (the DryGuy DX boot dryer is awesome and will make this fast!), applying Obenauf’s by hand, and returning them to the boot dryer. Every single day, I put them straight onto the boot dryer when I take them off, as this will dry sweat and eliminate possible odors. I rinse my boots with water 1-2 times a week or when they are very dirty, and every 4-6 weeks, I repeat the Obenauf’s application process. Never before have I had such comfortable and long-lasting boots. I usually end up using around a teaspoon per boot, more or less. Less for causal footwear, without so much dryness and fatigue as my work boots. One 4oz container gets me through maybe 12 pairs of applications. For just $13, I’ve saved HUNDREDS on a new pair of boots, not to mention how comfortable they are. I waterproofed and protected all my leather goods. This is why I can’t recommend this product enough. I’ve already recommended Obenauf’s to all of my coworkers. After trying many great leather products, this is now my go-to for leather care.

This is a great leather heavy duty protector and conditioner but it comes with some minor problems. I also own and use Obenauf's leather oil and have a review of that as well. Basically, the HDLP is for heavy use such as for work and hiking boots while the leather oil is better for lighter duties such as dress boots. I've been using these solely for my heavier boots and belts so I can't say much else for other leather products but I see a few problems with such use. Application: This is a wax, so it has the consistency of a soft runny wax that will melt with body heat. I usually apply this stuff by hand and it works very well since it allows you to massage the wax into the leather. After application, it takes about a day to dry or a bit faster if left in a warm(not hot) place. After it's dry, use a rag to wipe off the excess and a Qtip to get into the nooks and crannies. I then use horsehair brush to buff off the excess. This will leave a dull sheen that can be polished if you want to. It works well but tends to leave an annoying sticky and waxy residue longer than other conditioners. It took almost a week for a pair of boots to dry before it wasn't sticky to the touch anymore. I don't know how people can use it for leather couches or anything you regularly touch. The smell: Obernauf's formula is obviously made from a base of bees wax and other proprietary leather conditioning oils(often animal products but may occasionally be saps or plant based) so there is a smell. A pretty a strong smell. It's not unpleasant and smells like honey but it actually remains around for some time. I waxed my Red Wing work boots about 3-4months ago and it still smells of honey when I lace them up. This makes me doubtful about its utility on other leather products such as jackets you'll reek of honey for weeks if not months. The color: It will darken leather. Basically all leather conditioners will but this will significantly darken it until it totally dries. Even dry, it will still be a few shade darker. It took several months before my Red Wing work boots came back closer to its original copper color. Personally I think it is worth it unless you have a very light pair of shoes. It works best for dark brown or black leather. I'd avoid using these in dress shoes, the leather oil is better for that use. The protection: It works very well. It revitalized several old dry leather belts and boots. It has brought some measure of life back to those shoes and boots. I'm expecting a few more years of life from those old worn boots and belts. It works great at waterproofing. My Danner leather hiking boots have been through treks through muddy trails and streams and after a good rinse, the muck and water slides off. It's not magic but it comes close. When I hose off my Red Wing work boots, the dust easily washes off and the boot itself looks untouched beneath. I've been using the HDLP on my hiking shoes for almost 3years with weekly day hikes, my Danners look worn in but the leather still looks great. I've had to reapply the HDLP every 3-4months. Overall great product with some caveats. Caution because of the darkening of leather, smell and sticky residue. Great leather protection from heavy dirty situations. However, if you just need a good boot oil with decent protection without as much darkening, I'd suggest the Obenauf's leather oil.

This leather preservative is fantastic. It smells good (and natural) enough to eat, which is nice, as I don't like having to handle products that seem toxic. Especially something like this, where it's inconvenient to not get it on my hands. I purchased this for reconditioning leather car seats which obviously hadn't been oiled / conditioned in a long time. The leather had superficial cracks, and was stiff in many areas. Originally I tried Lexol leather conditioner, which has great reviews. It just wasn't intensive (rich) enough to get the job done. Then I moved on to Obenauf's Leather Oil (OLO) which was a great improvement. But the seats were just eating it up. I got to doing perhaps 6 or 7 applications (over about 10 days), and they were still sucking it in like a sponge. Next I moved on to this product (Obenauf's LP Boot Preservative, OLPBP). Wow. It took things to a new level. Obviously, we have to keep in mind I'd already greatly improved the leather with the OLO But after a couple of applications of the heavier duty OLPBP, the leather was very supple and soft. I am confident I could have got that result with perhaps 3 or 4 applications of this product. I let the car heat up in the sun before applying it. Then let the car continue to be hot in the sun, so it would absorb nicely. It worked well. I didn't even need to wipe away any excess. It all just absorbed right into the leather. I did give them a bit of a polish though, as the finish was dull. Are a polish, they looked great. I also tried it on some soft leather (Ecco) shoes. It revived the leather beautifully. I'd not put anything on them in the two years I'd had them. They are now happy shoes. I am sure, however, that either the OLO or the OLPBP would have done the trick on the shoes. For boots, the OLPBP would be my first choice. A nice bonus, is that the car smelt great for many weeks after. Like a honey.

I have been using this product for years to protect my leather work boots and hiking boots. Part of the reason I refuse to invest in anything synthetic, when I can just treat with HD LP and keep my leather fairly impervious to the elements and lasting for a long time. Easy to apply and recommended with hands as your body heat will soften to the right consistency. Low shine and nigh impossible to polish well, but I don't use it for dress boots. Don't recommend this product for fashion boots as it will leave your leather slightly darker and "matte" finish, somewhat diminishing the natural patina over time and breathability; but fashion is not why this product exists. Much better IMO than some other products that contain chemicals that slowly detoriorate your leather. I have taken this product to neglected and abused boots in the past and was very satisfied at the difference HD LP made in rsteotomg and protecting leather.

This, and their oil, is the best stuff I've ever put on my leather. The LP is what I consider heavy duty, working in mud, with my chicken and ducks on my hard use gloves etc. Brings old crusty leather back to life, broke in my daughters baseball glove. It's great. I use it on my boots about every three months using the oil as needed in between.

It really revived a vintage leather jacket. It looks great and I expect to get a few more years out of it. I will use the Obenaufs on it every so often to keep it looking good. I also applied it to a leather bag and it restored the colour. Great product.
