what is the nipple flow that comes with these bottles?

The packaging shows that both slow-flow and medium-flow nipples are included, but doesn't clarify further. Well, as Karla noted, the small bottles are provided with slow-flow nipples, and the large bottles are provided with medium-flow nipples. Further, if you hold the nipples up to the light, you will see that they are embossed on the side with "slow" or "medium," so you can determine which is which. I hadn't realized this before, had put all four bottles into service with our newborn (though only using the 4 ounce liners with both bottles, and only filling with 2 ounces of formula), and hadn't understood why she would get through some bottles quickly and others slowly, or why when inverted, some nipples would drip more quickly than others. I'm glad that I finally figured it out.

Is this compatible with the medela pumping system?

When you use the adapter yes. The set I bought came with one adapter so if you use a double pump you will need to buy a second adapter. I have read reviews saying you can freeze milk in these liners, I haven't yet but plan on trying to.

Can you mix/shake formula inside the drop-in (with the nipple attached, obviously) or are you supposed to pre-mix the formula?

You can, but it'd be easier pre-mixed. Theres just not a lot of room if you have it full for shaking/mixing. Seems like the powder gets stuck up in the nipple once you go to shake, so I would mix with a knife before putting nipple on and then shaking.
