The Tempest is one of the most suggestive, yet most elusive of all Shakespeare's plays, and has provoked a wide range of critical interpretations. It is a magical romance, yet deeply and problematically embedded in seventeenth-century debates about authority and power. In this updated edition, David Lindley has thoroughly revised the introduction and reading list to take account of the latest directions in criticism and performance. Including a new section on casting in recent productions, Lindley's introduction explores the complex questions this raises about colonization, racial and gender stereotypes, and the nature of the theatrical experience. Careful attention is also given to the play's dramatic form, stagecraft, and use of music and spectacle, to demonstrate its uniquely experimental nature. Review: * * * * * - quality paperback. practically every line annotated. informative paratext -- fore and aft . . . Review: Helpful and fun - I'm preparing to teach THE TEMPEST for the first time, so this was a great way to combine the text with a solo car trip. It's delightful, but I think that for someone unfamiliar with the play it might be hard to follow the characters, through no fault of the cast here. Great stuff for someone who has read and/or seen THE TEMPEST before.

SLOW DOWN
The characters read too quickly and made it extremely difficult to keep up. The quick reading actually took away from my ability to visualize the scenes. The play was good after I listened several times to parts of it.

The printing of this book is wrong.
Do not buy it. The pages were misprinted and now its too late for me to ask for a return.

A book with more than just the story itself.
(Portugal) Product exactly as described. I haven't read it yet, but this book is full of information - analitical texts, notes, illustrations and introductions. Perfect for anyone who wants to study "The Tempest" in deep and still enjoy the reading of the story. I made the purchase on September 18th and it arrived today, September 26th. It was supposed to arrive on September 24th, but there was a little delay. Other than that, perfect delivery.

Book
I was forced to buy this outrageously more expensive copy of the tempest for a levels. It’s ok tho cause the pages are really thick so great for annotations and it has a descriptions at the bottom of the page to understand what’s happening more since Shakespeare loved to waffle with weird words and spellings. The introduction is a bit unnecessary tho it’s like half the book no idea how much or why you have so much to say in the introduction but it’s got some funky pictures in it so that’s pretty cool. I do recommend getting it though I don’t have any real negatives about it despite it being more expensive then the first copy I got before I got told it was the “wrong one” which is crazy cause they all are the same thing but no hard feelings

Bien mais non conforme à la description
Les pages étaient manuellement annotées, ce n'est pas grave en soi mais il vaut mieux prévenir que guérir
