How do you retract the lead? Twist for the eraser...but can't figure out how to retract or advance the lead

To advance the lead: while holding the pencil by the lower rubberized grip, push down on the top (the eraser), then release. To retract the lead: push down on the top, hold it down while pushing the lead back in, then release.

On the pencil itself it states 'Japan'. :o)
