How does this attach to the chair? From the description it just appears to be placed on top but does that actually hold it in place?

It has a rubbery feeling rough surface on the underside that grips leather really well. I have had it for months and it has never slipped around. Same results on a wooden chair and a plastic covered piano stool. The cover can be removed for washing too.

Can this be used safely in the car while driving?

Possibly though it’s not designed for car use and may foul the seat belts etc. It is quite deep so may act as a booster seat though again it is not designed for car use. Personally, I wouldn’t use it in a vehicle.

Will my bum be sore after sitting on this for several hours at a time?

I have been using this for some months now and my bum doesn’t get sore any more. I do get up and walk about a bit on a more regular basis - so don’t rely just on this - but I have been impressed (and I was sceptical)!
