Keyhole Cuties: The Pin-up Art of Celeste Giuliano

This is a very different book and the photographer's style is unusual and surreal - very interesting indeed. Working off the great pinup artwork of Gil Elvgren and others, Vargas certainly among them, Celeste has duplicated many of the painted pinup girls of the past with actual models - life genuinely imitating art. She pulls this off with some very heavy digital photo editing with almost each image, working the backgrounds and the models themselves rendering them into cheesecake photos that are literally too good to be true. I say that in a good way. This is not crystal clear studio portrait work, nor is it typical boudoir photography, rather, it's taking digital vintage/retro cheesecake style of the 1940's and 1950's and rendering real-life girls into the paintings that used to be on calendars across the nation. It's brilliant, it's well done, and there's some spectacular work in here that will have you wondering how long it took to accomplish these finished images, and just where does the actual photograph end and the digital painting begin?The book itself is very well printed, heavy, very nice quality, typical of Schiffer's work - I don't think I've ever gotten a poorly made book from them. One thing that is odd - the dust jacket is a heavy clear plastic with the red "keyhole" printed on it, which slides off to reveal the black cover of the book with the young lady on the cover - so, you're looking through the keyhole holding the book in your hands. Another very interesting idea, but being a heavy book with a clear plastic cover, the clear plastic covering scratches very easily, so while it's a clever cover, mine arrived with scratches all over it, but I really don't see how they could be avoided given the material it's made out of. It's not a big deal and I STRONGLY recommend this book if you're a fan of retro pinup photography or artwork, but just wish they would've used a more conventional material for the dust jacket. Over all, a very minor critique for a very fantastic book. BUY IT WHILE YOU CAN!

I can't say enough about Celeste and her wonderful book. I've been lucky to have been photographed by her and will be having another shoot coming up soon. She is immensely talented, a very sweet person, and amazing. I'm so glad to have met her! Each photograph in this book is wonderful. She captures the essence of a pin-up girl to a "T"! If you love retro style and pretty girls then you should definitely buy this book! *cue Reading Rainbow music"

Pin-ups have been popular since the 1920's and this book brings back the art with exquisite style. Professional photographer Celeste Giuliano captures the beautiful models with an authentic attention to detail. I particularly enjoyed the use of backgrounds and props to add fun to the photos. This is a well put-together collection of over 100 pin-up photographs that anyone would appreciate owning. If I had 100 thumbs, they would all be up for this fantastic work of art!

Taking the woman next door and transferring her into a classic world the likes of Elvgren and Vargas, Celeste truly comes through with recreating the quintessential pin-up. Her ability as an artist shines in her photographs, as does the passion she has for this style of photography. This collection is a MUST HAVE for any fan of vintage, retro, pin-ups, or for those who just have a love of classic ladies. Not only do I have a copy, I bought additional copies as gifts- perfect coffee table display book! Well done!

Everything about this book is perfection. Celeste is undeniably one of the best pin-up photographers working today, and this book collects many of her best images. The book itself is beautiful, bound with a mylar cover and printed on thick paper. It is truly a quality book, a must for collectors and fans of pin-up art!

Really nice Pin-Up photography and very inspirational considering I do a little bit of model photography in my spare time. Also great if you collect or like retro culture.
