Best solution for portable GPS mount
Not much I can add that hasn't been said. I have used in-dash and phone GPS and portable GPS with windshield mount. I won't go into detail about these alternatives except to say that this surface friction mount bests them all. I broke down and purchased a Garmin 50LM after struggling with Google Maps on a Blackberry Bold for too long. I chose this mount based on recommendation from Amazon and the accompanying reviews. This is a very well made product; I am pleased with the quality. The mounting arm rotates 360-degrees in its clamp atop the friction plate and, of course, the plate itself rotates infinitely on whatever surface it is placed. This gives infinite rotation adjustment in the horizontal so that most any surface contour can be accomodated. The standard Garmin ball and bracket holds the GPS in place. The fit is tight and secure and allows the face of the GPS to be moved to the desired angle and plane so that it stays there. The 50LM has a 5-inch screen and though this model does not work in portrait mode, I tested to see if the friction mount could accomodate it rotated to portrait - it does; the 2xxx and 3xxx series 5-inch screens rotated to portrait mode should work fine. I agree with all previously mentioned benefits. I found another one today: while I was programming favorites from my recliner, I had the friction mount laying on my chest with the GPS pointing toward my face and my laptop in front of me also. Many of my favorites are super rural and I needed to use Google Maps on the laptop to get a general idea of where I wanted to locate my favorite. The friction mount worked great for this as I could work on my laptop and go "hands-free" with the GPS. There is plenty of weight and surface area to keep the friction plate from moving in car. Also, I notice that this allows the friction mount to soak up most of the vibration while isolating it from the GPS unit itself. I'm glad I spent the extra money on this best way to use GPS in the car. My 2012 Taurus has an area in the middle of the dash that is recessed about one inch from the main dash. I have no idea why they designed it this way, but it is a perfect spot for the Garmin friction mount. Highly recommended.

Hands Down The BEST Mount For Your GPS - Period.
These mounts are exceptional, they allow for perfect placement of most any GPS system and mine is currently holding and protecting my new Garmin 52LM. Aside from the flexibility of placement options the mount is quite well made. The thick, tight weave nylon mesh is like kyptonite so no worries regarding tears and rips. The side stitching is a baseball stitch which as anyone familiar with leather furniture and or high quality leather apparel knows is the strongest stitch on the planet. The clingy underside is a thin soft textured leather that feels a bit like Micro Fiber but definitely supplies more than enough grip power to keep both the mount and GPS from sliding on your dashboard or center consol. Another nice touch is the effortless locking system built into the top of the mount. ABS plastic with an easy to lock and release mechanism by simply pressing down. We have another of these mounts which was purchased just about two years ago and still looks brand new but at the time if I recall correctly the price was around $40 - at this current price it's a steal. Add the second day free shipping for Amazon Prime members and you just can't beat it. Window shield suction mounts are in my opinion always problematic. Aside from the direct sun of the day making your screen difficult to read they present a distraction from your full view of the road ahead. Not to mention they have a tendency to pop off which is not only a hassle but can break your GPS. The Garmin Friction Mount is simply one of those handy products that does exactly what it promises - if you're on the fence about buying one I can assure you, once you own one you'll be more than delighted to have it. Highly Recommended

I love this gps mount
I love this gps mount. I find it vastly superior to the traditional mount that attaches to the windshield by suction (often poorly). It works great in all three of our vehicles... and is simple to move from car to car. It NEVER has shifted around during our driving. I like that it is easy to just pick up and place on the floor when I'm concerned about security - and just as easy to replace. All adjustments are very convenient... This is a stress-free product. I can't think of anything negative to say about it... UPDATE December 2015: I've continued to use this mount heavily since purchase. In the last few months, it's bottom surface has worn enough that sudden movement of the car does cause it to occasionally slide off the dash (some dashes will be less prone to this than others). This is more of an observation than a criticism. I would buy another in a heartbeat. I do think, though, that the manufacturer should design that bottom surface with ribs of some kind. Oh... another suggestion for users... don't leave the mount on the dash for long periods in a hot car (parked in the driveway, etc.)... it appears that heat build-up can fade your dash a little... Just pick it up & put it on the floor or wherever when you're not driving... SECOND UPDATE, March 2019! I'm STILL using this dash mount and am very satisfied with it... and I have a suggestion for those who own it & find that the bottom has become "slippery" after a while (as I described above). I found a great solution! I bought a spray can of "Super Grip" by Performix.... gave the bottom of the GPS mount a light spray, and it held on to the dash as good as new. I found that such an application is effective for a long time - about a year. When the unit starts sliding again, just give it another spray!

Best dash mount ever
I love this mount. This mount works great with my Garmin Drive 53. This is a weighted mount requiring no adhesive. The mounting is simple to setup and the GPS fits securely allowing easy use of the touch screen with no movement. The only time I notice that it had moved is after hitting a large pot hole, which caused the mount to slide back a little. Other than rolling the van, I can't see the GPS going anywhere. Now, if I could find an attachment compatible with my dash cam I'd buy a second one...

Skeptial at first, sold 100% today - highly recommended
Skeptical. That was and is the best description I had prior to purchase. How could this mount stay put on the dash of the car and hold my Garmin Nuvi secure? The dash board slants, the car moves and motion will cause it to move around. I envisioned my Nuvi and this mount flying off the dash and into the door glass or worse. Moving to Nevada last year, a non-windshield mount state, I had to do something. Using an air vent mount for a while, but it was not a permanent solution. I took the plunge with a flash sale at Amazon. Boy, I couldn't be happier. * The foam bottom will stick like glue to any dashboard (unless you Armor All the dash heavily causing a slick surface condition) * The mounting arm is Garmin, so my mounting bracket worked perfectly. * My current unit is a Nuvi 1490T- plenty of room below the mount, so it is not touching the dash * My winter friend owns a Magellan 7" unit and bought one after seeing and using mine -- he was sold after the first trip * In sum - it just works! Nuff said and no longer skeptical More and more states are cracking down on windshield mounts for personal GPS units, this mount's cost is far less then an equipment violation handed to you by the local police department. If you are looking for a bean bag mount, look no further. Buy this mount and you will not be sorry. ******* 03/20/2016 - Update One year later. I have eaten my prior skeptical words. In short, this mount works just as good today as when I first got it. The convenience of moving from dash to floor (for security) or vehicle to vehicle has been great. Whatever vehicle I put it in, the mount sticks to the dash like glue. Great when I rent vehicles and also remain legal in non-windshield mount states like Nevada and California. Like I said a year ago -- buy this mount, you will not be sorry you did.

The best way to mount your automotive GPS - period.
Having recently purchased my fourth portable GPS unit since they became affordable a couple of years back, I've gone through several different mounting systems. These are typically either suction-mounted window mounts or a combination of the suction mount and adhesive dash mount. Although they do the job, none of them do it with the ease, practicality, or convenience of this Garmin Friction Mount. The last two mounts that we had, including one purchased recently from Amazon were no longer mounting properly in my wife's van, so we decided to give this a whirl - and I'm very glad that we did. This mount does not require any type of attachment to the window (obviously) and having it on the dash allows for what I consider to be a better viewing angle. I, like many other reviewers, was worried that it may move, but between the combination of the anti-skid rubber in the middle of the mount and the extremely weighty four side "pouches," this thing is not going anywhere. Recently used it for roughly 11 hours of driving and it did not slide an inch the whole time, even when programming via the touchscreen on the GPS. Pros: -Simplicity - merely attach the stem that is already attached to the mount to the existing mount that came with your GPS -Storage - very easy to store since it is mostly made out of what seem to be weighted beads, so it folds and stores in a center console very easily -Construction - initial impression is that this will last a long time, very good quality materials Cons: -None If you are on the fence, just pull the trigger. If you want a dash mount that doesn't fall off your window or constantly leave marks, purchase this and you won't have to worry about how or where to mount your GPS ever again.

Take off too Fast and it Lands on the Floor
Take off too fast and it lands on the floor. Looking for something different as this is not working. Update - I ended up drilling a small hole in the dash to secure the mount. No problems since. It connects well the the Garman and hold in place, once you fasten it directly to the dash with a small screw. As much as I did not want to drill a hole in the dash this arrangement works far better than any suction cup arrangement.

E le spese doganali?
Ottimo prodotto, ben fatto e funzionale. Il navigatore rimane saldo al suo posto, anche nelle curve più "tirate". Pagato però 18 euro in più al postino per spese doganali .. quindi, alla fine deo giochi, ho pagato più di 80 euro, sinceramente troppi!
